“Suitable for Girls Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed 11 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Rented this house for a 3-night girls weekend getaway. It was adorable, nicely furnished, with updated kitchen and bathrooms, and clean and comfortable. There was plenty of living space for 6 adult women to spread out: kitchen was large and the central gathering space of the house; a separate formal dining room with table to seat 6; a casual family room; and a separate sunroom. There were 2 separate outdoor areas, but the heat of July prevented us from getting a chance to enjoy those.

Now the downsides:
Limited Bathrooms/Shower: Although there are 2 bathrooms, there's only 1 shower. For 6 women, that added considerably to the amount of 'get-ready' time it took us to go out each day. There's a 1/2 bath on the main floor but is 'closet-small'. Functional, but barely large enough for 1 person. The 2nd bath is upstairs but the shower/toilet are combined which made it a bit awkward if one was showing and another had to use the facilities. We're close friends so we managed okay, but would be a bit awkward for couples staying together.

There are 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor with queen beds. These slept quite comfortably. However, access to the 3rd floor loft is a very steep ladder/staircase. Once you're up there, it's spacious and comfortable. Major downside is the trek down the staircase in the middle of the night to use the 2nd floor bathroom. Would not recommend for those afraid of heights, with large-built frames, elderly, with balance issues, or those needing quick access to a restroom.

Location: Jones Street is an adorable street, but is nearer to the more neighborhood areas of Savannah rather than the Savannah Riverfront. It's only a 10-minute walk from Forsythe Park but is a solid 15-20 minute walk to the Savannah Riverfront. We felt safe enough, but some of the streets looked and felt a bit sketchy. In the summer heat and humidity, we found ourselves opting to drive rather than make the trek in our summer dresses and heels. Of course this added stress of finding a place to park and selecting a designated driver for the trip home. If you have limited mobility or don't want the hassle of walking more than 5 minutes to do your sightseeing, this isn't for you.

Lastly, we had major air-conditioning issues the first 2 nights. It didn't cool down below 80 degrees in the house. They were very responsive to our calls and did what they could to help out (running to buy extra fans and setting them up all around the house) until the repairman could get there. It cooled down by the 3rd day/night. Besides the heat though, it did mean that one of us had to be 'on-duty' to handle the calls and be at the house to meet them. This added an additional layer of stress on what should have been an otherwise carefree weekend getaway. It would have been nice if the rental company had offered something to her or our group for the inconvenience...even $50 gift card towards drinks or appetizers one night would've been a nice touch.

In closing, since we were there for a girls weekend, it was more about hanging out in the house being together rather than sightseeing in Savannah. The house provided everything we needed, was much better than a hotel, and allowed us to make lifelong memories. I would stay here again. However, I wouldn't recommend for groups larger than 6, co-ed groups larger than 4 people, or for large groups staying more than a few nights.

Management Response

This guest's description of the layout of the home and its amenities is accurate, and matches our description in our listing pretty closely. They have done a great job highlight the benefits as well as potential areas future guests should consider.

This home is very popular among ladies' weekends as well as family vacations, and is priced to reflect that it only has 1.5 baths. Most guests love the large open format of the first floor, perfect for socializing with friends and family with the large dining room, living room, sun room, and private courtyard. It can get a little hectic with just 1 full and one 1/2 bath, and we are always upfront about this, especially with larger groups...most seem to make it work and give more value to the ample and comfortable space to socialize on the first floor.

This home is on a preventative maintenance plan for its Air Conditioning system, but Savannah's summer got the best of it for a day during this guests stay. We did our best to make these guests comfortable until our technician resolved the issue.

We are so Lucky that these guests indicate they'd stay here again, and we look forward to hosting them in this home or any of our others depending on their needs on the next visit.

“Great cottage”
Reviewed 23 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. It is cosy and warm. It has been updated with modern amenities yet has retained much of its old world charm. The courtyard would be a great spot to relax when nice outside. Unfortunately for us, it rained a lot so we did not get to use it much. I would not recommend this cottage for families with very young children or for older travelers as the house has many stairs.
