Owner description: Andrew Low commissioned New York architect John Norris to design and construct his house in 1848. Norris came to Savannah to design the Custom House on Bay Street and remained in Savannah to build many desirable residences with the latest in technology and luxury. The Italianate exterior features intricate cast iron railings and side balconies contrasting with the smooth stuccoed brick walls. The well proportioned rooms are decorated with elaborate plaster cornices and carved woodwork. The delicate balance of exterior restraint and opulent interior resulted in an elegant villa for the family.

Went to the Low House with GS Troop as part of a pilgrimage. All three ladies working there had a chance to educate young growing minds and expand the perspective of future leaders. Instead, they all seemed equally annoyed by the mere presence of our young ladies. Our tour guide, the youngest if the three ladies, was interrupted repeatedly by a mature woman to "hurry us up" and that they had "little time" for any of the girls questions. Not shown any southern hospitality nor even common courtesies. This historic site is no representation on Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon or the spirit of Savannah. I sincerely hope this review causes a change in the attitude in the staff.

Andrew Low's home was inherited by William Low (who married Juliette Gordon Low). It was a very beautiful home and while Andrew Low lived there he added a 3rd floor for possible grandchildren living there, but no grandchildren ever lived with him. The home had a room especially for relatives or friends staying for periods of time. The room had at least 3 beds. I found this very interesting.

The house is beautiful, although nothing particular about it really stands out in my memory. Maybe I saw too many house museums that day! Part of the problem was that our tour guide was a bit robotic and didn't really arouse much enthusiasm. There is a pretty garden out front. Another bonus is that the free DOT shuttle stops right outside (good news when your feet are sore from walking).

The background on the Low family was well explained. They entered in Juliette Gordon Low and the part she played in the family.
The room settings and exhibits were wonderfully detailed down to examples of work documents, personal care and interests. Definitely a family that helped shape Savannah history

After touring the Juliette Low House, we stopped to see the Andrew Low House. Other than some of the history presented on the tour, the house itself was basically the same as the previous house. From my understanding, most of the furniture was reproductions from the era and not the original furniture which was somewhat disappointing. If your into history and want to know more about the historical facts of the Low family, then by all means visit the house, otherwise you can pass on this.
