Probably never would have stayed at the Thunderbird, but my sister had a 2 night stay gift certificate. I'd seen it many times, but the location is somewhat out of the way from the main historic district, especially if you don't have a car. That being said, I was VERY surprised at the cleanliness of the room, the quality of the beds (simmons beauty-rest) and of the bathroom fixtures. High quality for a "motel" class. We also called to inform the front desk that we would need a late check in. They inquired at approximately what time we would arrive and had the bed turned down and the ice bucket filled when we got there. I've stayed in MANY hotels, including resort class, and have never had a full ice bucket at check in, it was a pleasant surprise. Staff was very helpful, cooperative, and knowledgeable. Unlike most motels they also offered a full complimentary of toiletries and had real glassware and ceramic logo mugs as opposed to plastic or paper. A plus - less than 1 block from a major site-seeing trolley ticketing/pickup location. Negative - across the street from Greyhound Station, although we had NO problems whatsoever. The advertiesed price on the web is quite high, especially for no pool and location, but if you can get a good deal, $75 or less, I'd recommend it.

It is nice when our certificates are used by a non-believer! I’m glad you get to enjoy the turndown service upon your late arrival! That is one way that we set ourselves apart from the pack. The “real” glass and ceramic in the rooms is something that only high end hotels do. Anymore, even the mid priced chains only offer disposables. Our toiletries are custom made for our hotel; I hope you enjoyed the fragrance and quality of these products! Please come back and see us again!

We spent a long weekend in Savannah, booked a room at the Thunderbird Inn, and were welcomed by Nick at the front desk. Nick was most helpful, supplying us with maps, suggested great restaurants, and things to do while we were there. He was very friendly, and a valuable resource to us, as this was our first time in Savannah. The hotel is located within walking distance of everything. We parked the car in the onsite lot, and did not get back in it until checkout. Thank you for a great experience!

Thank you for staying with us! I’m pleased Nick took care of you. I hope he pointed you to some of our great establishments that are a little off the beaten path! We spend a lot of time learning the city’s fun and quirky spots as well as the traditional favorites! We look forward to your return.

The Thunderbird Inn is located really close to most of the SCAD dorms so it is a snap to help move your student in. The motel is on the edges of the historic district so it is a short walk to many of the local restaurants and sightseeing attractions. The rooms are clean and have cable & internet access. They offer a light continental breakfast; the breakfast has changed since the first time I stayed there (this was my third stay here). The earlier options were more diverse...danish, muffins, bagels, fruit, and cereal, with coffee, tea, juice, and milk to drink. Unfortunately, the offering this last September was Krispy Kreme donuts as well as the above named drinks. Not good if you need to watch your sugar intake! For breakfast I would recommend going to Clary's Cafe on Abercorn Street. I got a great breakfast there. Overall, the Thunderbird Inn is a good place to stay. The staff is friendly and helpful and you can not beat the location and room rates.

We love our SCAD family! I enjoy getting to know you all over the years that your child is going to school. I want to make sure you keep coming back and make us your Savannah home!

We did change away from more variety to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, coffee, and juice. We felt that Krispy Kreme is a nostalgic southern staple that we wanted to offer. Clary's is a great restaurant to have breakfast at. I also enjoy Huey's on River Street.

I look forward to seeing you on your next visit to SCAD.

My friends and I visited Savannah for a much needed Girl's Weekend Away. After finding the Thunderbird Inn via Expedia, we booked a room and excitedly set out on a Friday afternoon. We drove about 5 hours and got there around 7:30pm, parking in one of the last spaces available. That is a good sign, right? Boy, were we wrong.

We woke up with the sunrise the next morning in order to get an early start to our day of beach-going, site-seeing, and shopping only to find that our car was completely blocked in, along with many other cars in the parking lot. We talked to the front desk about the situation, but they said that the night shift did not leave any information as to whose car was blocking us in. After an hour, the car to our right was able to pull out, but we were still blocked in by the car behind us. After an hour and a half more of struggling with getting the car out and conflict with the staff, a friendly customer of the hotel came by and helped us do a 12-point turn to get our car out despite still being blocked in.

Although the staff was nice enough, we were offered no compensation for our inconvenience. Our one day to spend relaxing on vacation away from the stress of jobs and families, was 2.5 hours delayed.

The hotel is within walking distance of downtown Savannah for most people (about 1/2 mile on average). If you plan on using your car to get to the beach, Fort Pulaski, or just to find more of a breakfast than donuts and juice, I would not recommend this hotel. Stay at the Hampton Inn around the corner.

Because we had to stay in more than one hotel on our trip down to Savannah, we shopped around for location and price. My son had stayed in the motel during the winter and he was okay with it. The room was comfortable, the staff was helpful and really, you can't beat the free parking. It is within walking distance to a free bus stop and to the local trolley stops. We were able to move our son in without problem from the location and then didn't need the car as we could walk to the civic center, restaurants and even to the river. The street noise is somewhat loud during the day, but not at night. It's true that people are rude enough to smoke outside of the rooms. The room itself was clean and we would stay there again. We just needed a place to sleep and didn't require other amenities. Fresh fruit with breakfast would help with the just donut menu.

We booked this on hotwire as well. It was just 3 blocks to the City market and about 5 to the River Front. It is on the rougher side of MLK Jr. Street but you still feel safe. Seeing the loud paint job outside I was skeptical. However, our room was clean, the beds were comfy and for once we got nice pillows at a hotel (hooray). The best part about this stay was that we did not have to pay for parking which, is something you EXPECT at the other places in the Historic District. Other places charge $6-8 per night for parking! I would stay there again.

Like many other reviewers, we booked this on hotwire. It's advertised as being in the historic district but really is just outside of it. It's a renovated old street motel along a busy truck route and reminiscent of motels in places like Las Vegas or Niagara Falls. As such, the rooms are pretty close to the street and there is a Greyhound station across the street. You will hear trucks go by. Normally I commend hotles for being non-smoking, but here people go outside to smoke and the old heavy doors slam shut and they are loud.

The staff were friendly which was nice. The rooms were ok; again, just an average motel sized room. The room seemed to be clean, but the tub could probably use a good bleaching or replacement. There is intenet in the rooms via ethernet cable which was fine with me. The lobby also has wireless so if you are close to that you could probably get it. Free breakfast is just a Krispy Kreme donut and a juice machine.

If you are used to staying at hotels rather than motels, this isn't for you. If motels are okay and you don't mind a 5-6 block walk or shuttle to the historic district, this would suffice.
