We stayed for 2 nights at the Garden Suite on Chatham Square.
In summary, it's a good set-up for a romantic stay in Savannah. The pictures on the property's web site are a fair representation of what you get. Chatham Square is located in the very SW part of the historic district, and is a 5 minute walk from several restaurants, and a 10-15 minute walk to the River Front, Market Square, and remaining restaurants. This suite was great for two people -- but probably not large enough nor appropriate for a family.
The suite was composed of a period decorated combo bedroom / sitting room, a small efficiency style kitchen nook with cafe table, bathroom, and pretty outdoor garden courtyard with table. The gas fireplace in the sitting room with 2 large chairs was welcome perk -- both in the morning as well as after a long day of sightseeing.
Breakfast was a little different than most B&Bs. Our kitchen was stocked with bagels, croissants, English muffins, cookies, cerial, fresh fruit, milk, coffee beans, and juice for our stay -- and you eat what you want, when you want. If you are looking for an elegiant hot breakfast served to you, then this is probably not for you. (The physical remoteness of this suite from the rest of the properties dictates this set up.) But this worked out fine for us. The kitchen does not have a stove or oven -- rather -- only a toaster, broiler, coffee maker, small refrigerator, and tiny sink -- so don't plan on cooking dinner here. With all the great restaurants, you wouldn't want to anyway. Monique (the owner) made several good and accurate restaurant suggestions.
Parking here takes some planning. This suite does not have private off street parking. Most spaces in the square and nearby area are 2 hour meters, effective weekdays from 8 am - 5 pm. This is due to the local college students needing spaces. Also, there is street sweeping from 12:01 am to 4 am on various days for various curbs. However, there is a street right next to the suite that is big enough for 3 cars and has no meters. Parking is not a real big hassle -- just something to be aware of -- as they supposedly do ticket illegally parked cars.
The room was quiet and very clean. It also has a direct dial phone for local calls, a CD player, and TV.
There is a fairly classy general store (deli / coffee shop / gift shop / gas station) located in a 1930's style gas station about 6 blocks east of the room (sorry -- can't remember the exact location) that carries an incredible selection of mid-priced wines -- although they can't sell on Sunday due to liquor laws.
All in all, a nice experience and reasonably good value.
