“Could be a "Great Property" if.......”
Reviewed 15 February 2010

I recently returned from a 9000 mile cross country trip which involved staying in seven different Hampton Inns. I am winding up a five night stay here and would like to add my observations about this property.

Good:
1. Convenient location on the edge of the Historic District
2. Ample parking
3. Friendly staff
4. Nice size suite room
5. Reasonable rate
6. Comfortable beds

Not So Good:
1. Carpets throughout property were worn and dirty, as were the elevators.
2. Found a previous guest's toenail clippings on floor near ottoman
3. Breakfast was congested at crowded times. Where is the hand sanitizer??
4. Poor Workout Room: Equipment worn and noisy, no means to wipe down equipment,
never seemed to have cups for the water dispenser.
5. No wireless in room. Needed to stay connected with the provided cable near work desk.
6. No flat screen TV.
7. Observation: There was an area rug in the lobby right next to the doorway to the administrative office. Somehow it got bunched up. It remained that way for several hours while staff had to have walked right by without adjusting it.

It is a shame. It is a beautiful property but not much attention to detail.

There are many nicer properties in town to recommend staying at.

Although we did spend most of our time in Savannah outside of the hotel, the time we spent at this hotel was enjoyable and comfortable. This hotel is on the west side of the historic district, about two blocks up from the Savannah Visitors Center and Museum, about half a mile from the city market area and the River Street and Bay Street areas. There was a free hot breakfast in the lobby every morning, and a free city shuttle route on the street out front.

The room was clean and well maintained, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the hotel overall seemed well looked after. We had concerns about not being on Bay Street with many of the other hotels, but that wasn't a problem at all with the DOT shuttle. Accessing the hotel from the highway and parking was a snap. We walked down to the visitor's center and hopped on a tour trolley (several to choose from -we chose Oglethorpe). I would definitely consider staying here again.

We found this gem through our blackberry, on our drive up north from Florida. We have visited Savannah before, and knew we needed to stop here for the night. We usually stay at Hampton Inn because of their clean and comfortable establishment. Also, we enjoy the convinience of the hot breakfast. I was concerned of the location before arriving. The hotel is new and the decor is so beautiful; it seems as it's been their for 100 years The lobby has lots of seating areas, fireplace. We checked in around 4 pm, greeted with freshly baked cookies in the lobby. Perfect for the after noon snack (kids loved them) The parking lot is small but across the street their is a gated lot (not fenced) for the hotel guest. Their is a small fee for parking, however it was waived on our bill. We drove for dinner to the water front. On our returne we let our kids take a late nite swim at the pool. Very small, but perfect for a family of 5 to take a splash. The building is just very cute, I felt I was staying at HILTON. Lots of details in the decor. The price was perfect $100.00 for the night. Could not ask for a better deal. I look forward to returning again.

My boyfriend and I decided to go to Savannah GA for birthday. We read the reviews for Hampton Inn and suites Savannah, Ga (MLK). We drove up to the hotel and unlike some of the reviews... we did not find the hotel to be in a "shady" part of Savannah. It was located w/in walking distance from Paula Deen's Lady and Sons restaurant and also within walkin distance to a really great sushi restaurant "Wasabi".
The overall experience at Hampton Inn was great! The staff was so pleasant, helpful, & friendly. The front desk attendant "Mary" was very friendly and even offered some suggestions to near by restaurants.
The staff even offered directions to near by attractions and towns.

For overall cleaness of the hotel:
The bedspread in our room was slightly smudged with some dirt.
But the overall cleanliness of our room and the hotel was acceptable.
I would definitely stay at the hampton Inn & suites again.

We usually stay at Hampton Inns when traveling by car and have never run across a particular Hampton that we'd not return to--until spending a night here. At best, our experience was slightly below average. On check-in, we were told that we had been upgraded to a suite--usually good news. On the way to our room, we couldn't help but notice that the hallway carpeting was worn and dirty-looking. Unfortunately, the same was true of the carpet in the suite; however, it was not just dirty-looking, but obviously not recently vacuumed. A piece of a board game and some cereal bits lay about. When we went to turn down our bed, we found that the duvet was stained and dirty. We swapped it with the duvet on the other bed, but that should not have been necessary. Drains in the bathroom sink and tub were extremely sluggish--we used the little kitchenette sink in the room to clean up instead. On the morning of our departure, my wife was greeted by a large insect scurrying over the countertop in the bathroom. I cannot say that the room was exactly seedy; however, it fell far below the standards of cleanliness we've seen in other Hamptons. For example, the next night we stopped at the Bridgeport/Clarksburg Hampton and had a perfectly satisfactory overnight stay. The next time we're in Savannah, we'll stay elsewhere. Had our experience been much worse, I would have taken them up on their 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Our family has stayed here twice in the past year for vacations. The location is good although not in the heart of downtown. The rooms are comfortable, breakfast OK but crowded and a bit hectic, and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. An excellent value compared with more expensive options and a surprisingly short walk to historic homes, shops, and restaurants. Our room this week faced MLK Blvd and was a bit noisy with street traffic - however nobody's sleep was disturbed. Hotel is also quite close to the tour-trolley operations so it's convenient to book and begin a tour. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

My wife and I stayed here 4 nights over the week of Christmas. The staff, especially a young man named Devon, were some of the best I have ever come across while travelling. Everyone, including the cleaning staff, were friendly and seemed happy to be there. The location is great, when I-116 ends, the hotel is at the end of the street. There is a Chevron across the street and the trolley picks and visitors center is about 2 blocks away, well within walking distance. I highly recommend this place. The hot breakfast is, well, not the greatest, but you should go out to eat breakfast in Savannah, to places such as J. Christophers or Clary's, instead of a hotel breakfast.
