“Pure Southern Hospitality”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We spent 2 nights in Savannah on our drive back to NY from Florida. It is located in the Historic district, across from the river front. The location is very good and it felt safe. The property itself is historic but the rooms are new. The lobby is renovated and well appointed. The staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. We tend to look for the Staybridge brand because we like to have a kitchen. They always have a manager's reception during the week and we arrived in time to enjoy barbecued chicken sliders, antipasto salad, and wine and beer. It was very nicely done. The atmosphere in the lobby was relaxing after a long car trip and the food and drink were just what we needed. The room was disappointing and if I had not been so exhausted, I would have asked for a different room. We were given an interior King Suite which was very small and felt like being on an inside cabin of a cruise ship (although I have never been in one!). If I had wanted to cook, I couldn't have done it. It was too small and crowded. Do not hesitate to ask for another room. We are so spoiled by other Staybridge locations where the rooms are spacious and comfortable. So, this was a little disappointing. Parking is very limited and you have to park in a public lot down the block because the hotel lot can only accommodate a few cars. Savannah is a great city and this is a nice hotel in a good location.

Room Tip: Do not get an interior room. Even a room on Bay Street has to be better than that. The area is quiet...

Having parsed the non-ending list of places to stay in historic downtown Savannah we chose the Staybridge Suites based on (a) price and (b) the fact that it was an all suite with a kitchen. Free breakfast (not quite a buffet but far beyond a continental breakfast) wifi, gym and free laundry facilities are offered. Parking at a modest by Savannah standards is $12 per day. The hotel is exceptionally well managed by Vanessa whose team go the extra mile to ensure guest satisfaction. The location is within easy walking distance to everywhere you would want to go in the historic district. Good places to eat: Vic's upstairs, Vinnie Van Go Go's (best pizza), Fire on Perry Street, Chives for oysters and exotic martinis. Can probably miss Tybee Island unless you're looking for a beach experience.

Room Tip: Do not choose a first floor on Bay Street - ask for either an upper floor or one on the back side.

This is a very nice hotel, 1 block back from the river where there are many shops and restaurants. The hotel presents well with a welcoming lobby and friendly staff. We probably should have been a bit alarmed when we were checking in and the customer next to us requested a room NOT facing Bay Street but as first time travelers to the area, we were okay with what we were given. The room that we stayed in, M19, was clean and plenty large enough for the 2 of us. The bed was comfortable, even though neither of us are fans of the miniature pillows that hotels seem to prefer these days! The issue with the rooms facing Bay Street became crystal clear as soon as we prepared for bed and turned off the lights. The windows are covered with very charming plantation blinds that did a minimal job of blocking the light from outside. Streetlights, car lights, you name the lights! It was like a light show came on when the lights went out! We did not contact the front desk regarding the issue because we had been in the room all afternoon and evening and didn't really feel that much could have been done to resolve the problem at that point. We would definitely stay at this hotel again; we would just exercise the option of requesting a different room as the informed gentleman earlier in the day had done.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing Bay Street

Dear Great Location and Valued Guest,
Thank you for your recent stay with us in Savannah and your review of us. We appreciate your opinions and would love for you to come back and visit soon. We do have some interior King rooms that would eliminate the lights shinning into your room. Please feel free to request one of these rooms as you make your next reservation with us. We look forward to having you come visit us again soon.
Warm Regards Betsy Portune

We left the Staybridge Suites early monday morning before breakfast hours began. Cassie, one of the employees setting up the breakfast station, was nice enough to let us gather some items of food and juice before we took off and brought us plastic plates and utensils for the trip.

We had an amazing time at the Staybridge Suites and would highly recommend.

Upon arrival, I found a small parking lot behind the hotel but it was already full at 4:30 and after calling the Hotel, I was directed to a the top deck of an unattended private parking garage one block away; there was no elevator in the garage and the cost was $16.00 per day. Being in the historic district, the Hotel itself is an old structure that was apparently converted to it’s present use. Akin to an inside cabin of a cruise ship, I was given an interior suite with no view of the outside; only the view of rooms across the hallway (see picture). It was smallish for a suite but well appointed with a full size fridge/freezer, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, double electric burner (no stove), and flat screen TV. The Wifi was very sluggish. With a comfortable bed and no external noises from the hallway or other rooms, I slept well. Outside the room, and being in the historic district, there was plenty of attractions within walking distance. Overall, a mostly pleasant stay with good customer service and good value with the discount rate I used despite the parking fee.

Dear Mostly Pleasant Stay,
Thank you for your review. We would love to have you stay with us again on your next visit to Savannah. If you would please contact me we can add a note to your rewards number stating that you would prefer an outside facing room. Yes our parking lot behind the hotel has limited parking and the overflow is the parking garage on Lincoln Street. We do have an area out front that will allow our guest to unload their belongings if you should have to utilize the parking deck. Please come back and stay with us again on your next trip to Savannah.
Sincerely, Betsy Portune

Four of us just spent four nights here. We were pleased with this facility and would recommend it. The staff are helpful and hospitable...southern hospitality apparent here. Comfortable, quiet rooms. Many choices at breakfast and weekday happy hour offers plentiful food as well. Only complaint is limited parking near hotel.

Don"t let complaints deter you. Our visit for three days was great. It was walking distance to almost everything. The only time we got in the car was to go to Tybee Island Ten minute walk to downtown and across the street from riverfront. Our room was clean and well provided, staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.
