Description: Since the Bean (as it’s known in the neighborhood) opened its doors in 2001, we’ve tried to make decisions that are good for our customers, our community, and our environment. Strangely enough, we also believe that this way of doing business is good for the bottom line. Our fair-trade coffee is organic, as is our produce and most of our staple ingredients. We are committed to using locally grown ingredients as much as possible, don’t fry anything, and make most of our food from scratch. We are vegetarian, and very vegan and gluten-free friendly! In 2008 we got rid of disposable plastic ware and we continue to recycle and compost. We host almost nightly events organized by members of the community and we strive to be welcoming to even the strangest among us. Check out our website for upcoming events.

We take the thousand mile trip to Savannah about every other month - family and friends here make it well worth it - and one of our favorite stops since we discovered this gem is the Sentient Bean. It is EXACTLY what we love in a coffee house- great food, great atmosphere, and most importantly, GREAT COFFEE. Everyone is friendly and sweet and the food options vary from simple to slightly different and all wonderful.

Always love going down for breakfast and coffee and to check out the new artwork on the walls!

“Great all round cafe at southern east of Forsyth park”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

I was surprised reading here that Savannah being a small town has 744 restaurants, and i suspect some or many are repetitive and some closed down! My guess is there are not more than 300 cafe and restaurants in this small town.
Sentient Bean like any others in Savannah, tries to stand out from the myraids of F and B and has to compete for loyal consumers.
I think its locality being near the main park and near a grocery stall helps in its constant customer flow more than its food. Yes, the reviews here are mainly very accurate... vegan options, green initiatives, wifi, casual decor and style, and value for money, among its main reasons one should be there. As mentioned, some food are better than the others, like the ciabatta bread is hard, croisants are better, etc.
Overall, would recommend that you check it out yourself!

“A different experience”

The Bean is a neat shop with lots of unique food choices. Occasionally watch a movie of here some very good music. Its setting on Forsyth Park is very relaxing on a nice Savannah day.

“Great Food + Service”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

This place is awesome. Went here multiple times on a short trip to Savannah. They had great pastries, soups, and really cool purple sweet potato pancakes. I was thrilled with all the vegan options (vegan breakfast burrito, vegan soups, vegan butter, vegan pancakes, vegan cookies, etc!).

Staff was very friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and I also loved all the bicycle parking.

“good fresh organic food, and great coffees!”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

the decor is a bit "funky" but fun, lots of college students eat there as well. The food is delicious and healthy and the coffee is great as well. For a quick healthy meal this is the place to go.
