“Great Experience”
Reviewed 17 January 2012

We were in Savanna four days and stayed at Hamilton-Turner. Our experience was exeptional. They made our dinner reservations before we arrived and all the resturants
were 4-5 star except one. Garibaldi's, where both meals were poor. The inn keeper called them to register our complaint. I will return to Hamilton-Turner the next time I am in Savanna.

Thank you for your review of the Hamilton-Turner Inn.

We are so pleased that you had a “great experience” at our Inn. We understand that our guests, during their visit to Savannah, intend to explore our beautiful city. Therefore, we attempt to take care of those things that permit you to add more time to your exploration and less time on planning them. So it is our pleasure to not only provide you with restaurant and tour suggestions, but to arrange them for you as well.

Again, thank you for taking the time to review our property and hope that you will choose our Inn should your return to Savannah.

Kindest Regards,

Jeremy Watson

We went to Savannah from Charleston by train and stayed there for four nights. The location was ideal, and the building very pretty, the staff duly professional, but on the last day we had to leave with a sad feeling that we were not well taken care of.
On that day, our train to New York was to leave at 7:30PM. At 10AM, we checked out and asked the innkeeper lady to keep our luggage until we come back from the day’s sightseeing. We also asked her to call a taxi at about 6:30PM (the train station is about 15 minutes away). We were planning to lounge in their beautiful parlor the last hour.
The innkeeper said that she wanted to call the taxi at 5:30PM. When we said it would be too early, she said that at 5:30 they serve hors d’oeuvres in the parlor, so she would like us to be out of the inn by then, she did not want us to have an access to the parlor and the routine refreshment since we had checked out. We were shocked to know her dry policy. It was not what we expected from their advertised word “Southern hospitality.”
We did not argue and did as she said. The tax came at 5:30 and we arrived at the station at 5:45, and we had to wait for almost two hours doing nothing (in and around Savannah Station there is not even a coffee stand) until 7:30PM. It was a sad way to spend the last hour of our wonderful vacation.

Room Tip: Basement rooms are less expensive but had no view and very small, little natural light.

Thank you for your review.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your 4night stay with us. It’s very unfortunate that our sincere efforts to accommodate you, after you checked out of the Inn, have left a bad impression on you both.

Our check out time is 11AM, and we made accommodations for you the guests as well as your luggage for over 6hours after you had checked out of the Inn. As you are aware, our complimentary hour of wine and hors d’oeuvres is a very busy time for the Inn and is for our registered guests only (those checking in or staying over) not those who have checked out. Because we were fully committed, it made it impossible to have you stay over during this time which we would have been more than happy to explain if you would have asked if staying over was optional opposed to assuming.

As you may recall, the taxi pick up time was suggested by the taxi company and not the Innkeeper as they were concerned about the amount of evening traffic and getting you to your destination in a timely manner.

I sincerely believe that our accommodations and services provided to you, again over 6hours after you checked out, shows our great desire to please our guests and was indeed an example of our generous “southern hospitality”.

Kindest Regards,

Jeremy Watson

Best stay I've had in Savannah. The Hamilton-Turner was wonderful. I went during the Christmas season. The decorations added to the warmth and coziness of the Inn. The staff was friendly, professional and gracious. I will stay there again.

Room Tip: If you can't do stairs do not select a room on the third floor as there is no elevator.

My husband and I stayed here with my parents for one night during our short visit of Savannah. Of course, the house is lovely, offering so much charm and history. The location is terrific - walking distance to many of historic Savannah's sites. What we loved and also thought could be improved upon had to do with the little things.

Let's first start with all the little things we loved:
- the holiday decor was warm and festive. the always-lit fireplace was so welcoming.
- the appetizers and wine at 5pm and the port wine and Ghirardelli chocolates after dinner was such a nice touch
- cannot beat the delicious gourmet breakfast included in your room rate, cooked by Gay. She and her husband Jim own the Inn.
- the charming and attentive host that Jim was during our breakfast. Great breakfast and tremendous service.

Little things that could be done to make the stay a little better.
- We were told before we arrived that because of a lack of storage space, we would not be able to check in early. However, we understood the carriage house was wholly unoccupied (this is where one of our rooms would be anyway), and would have preferred the option to store our bags in this locale or in an unoccupied room. We are from California and don't like having an exposed car filled with luggage.
- For nearly $300/night, the toiletries could have been better (i.e. separate shampoo and conditioner vs. two-in-one).
- The bathroom in our room needed some work. The faucets were soaked with grout and there was paint chipping off both the toilet lid and seat. Little things. But they count.

All-in-all, we would definitely return but would opt for a larger room and ensure our bathrooms were among those that had been recently updated/renovated.

We appreciate you taking the time to review the Hamilton-Turner Inn.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We appreciate your observations and are actually in the process of updating the bathrooms in the Carriage House. In our efforts to be more environmentally conscience, we decided to use the two in one shampoo/conditioner bottles rather than a separate bottle for each which cuts our waste by 50%. Because we are a historic property there are limitations to what we can do to make the Inn itself more “green” therefore, we have decided to take small steps to assure we do our part.

We do look forward to your return visit and another opportunity to have you as our loyal guests.

Jeremy Watson

If I could give 0 stars I would. We stayed in the carriage house. Lovely room. We got in around 4:30 and I immediately could hear the people above me moving. This went on for about 10 minutes. We had to walk over to the main house to ask them if they could do something about the noise above, trying to nip in the bud what could be bad at night for us. The mgr. at first said there was nothing she could do. She came over about 20 minutes later and told us she heard nothing and the people weren't even in the room.
We proceeded to go out to dinner. Came back at 11 and went to sleep.  At approximately 1:00 am I was woken up by loud walking upstairs. Since there was no phone in our room we walked over to main house. No one on duty but numbers for the owners. We called them. First time he hung up on me. Second time she said I was making the noise. At the same time out toilet chugged so we told her.
In the am there was a note saying they were in the carriage house at 3:00 am and heard nothing. By then the upstairs people were sound asleep as opposed to me being wide awake.
I proceed to bathroom at 8 am and there's a flood. Go back to main house. Mgr comes over with a check and tells us to leave. He said we caused the flood. He was belligerent. And started throwing our coats from the closet on the bed. I called the police because he was being aggressive and I felt unsafe. And ironically I asked to use another bathroom and he said there was one behind our room door  I opened the door and that one was flooded as well.  So i guess i damaged 2 bathrooms in spite NOT.  After he called me some choice names we got the car loaded.
It's a sorry state where you accuse your clients of damaging their own bathroom.
After reading the reviews I discovered that any negatives involve a reasonable request from a patron which the owner turns into a personal "assault" on the patron

Our hotel staff and owners take very seriously, our commitment to the finest in professional hospitality to all of our guests. We treat all complaints very seriously and respond immediately. In this case twenty minutes after our guest checked in at 4;30 pm, they approached the service desk and demanded their payment be returned as they could hear noise from the room above. Our manager went immediately to the room directly above and found no one to be in the room. She immediately reported this to the guests who had reported the concern and they seemed satisfied.

We received a complaint from other guests in the carriage house at approximately 7:30 pm that their was loud yelling coming from the room of the guests who had asked for their payment to be returned. We went to the room but a privacy sign was out and noise had stopped.

At approximately 1:50 am the owners received a call from the guest in the room who seemed to have been drinking. Their complaint again was of noise from the room above. Our night manager, who was in our offices on site, went to the carriage house at 2:00am and stayed in the parlor area for 45 minutes. The only noise was from the room of the guest who had complained about the room above. They had their TV quit loud and were constantly talking rather loud.

The next morning, due to our concern for the comfort of other guests, we approached the couple returning their room charge as they had originally requested and asked them to vacate the room. They actually threatened to physically fight with our employee who made the request. We then called the police to assist with their departure.

When we were able to access the room we found that the toilet had backed-up. The plumber came and found two rolls of paper stuffed down the toilet.

We never want to have an unhappy guest and must always be consious of the comfort of all of our guests. We are very sorry this situation took place and will do our upmost to avoid such a situation in future. The comfort and security of our guests is our absolute commitment.
