“A good hotel perched on the Savannah River”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

We enjoyed our stay--three nights--at the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Our room was a river view room (I'd recommend upgrading to this--though the hotel looks out on some light industry on the opposite shore, it was interesting to see tug boats and even giant freighters pass by). The window shades darkened the room so well that we slept in an hour later than we'd expected, and the bed itself was very comfortable. The hotel itself is clean and we found the staff friendly and helpful. It doesn't feel like a trendy hotel--it's definitely a chain--but we'd be happy to stay there again on our next trip to Savannah.

Room Tip: You may hear the toot of a large ship's horn on the river next to the hotel once or twice during...

As Hyatt members, we had free nights that we used to stay in Savannah. The hotel is quite large, feels a bit outdated, but has an amazing location: on Bay Street, overlooking the river. The staff was very welcoming, and the rooms were functional and clean. The parking is valet, and just be prepared to wait as the hotel is big and many guests could leave at once. Granted, we left on Memorial Day, so they may have experienced a higher-than-usual volume. Staying at this hotel, it was very easy to get out and walk anywhere downtown. We didn’t try their restaurant, and only used the “Perks Coffee Shop” in the lobby (breakfast.) We also had a last cap on the balcony of “Vu Lounge”, overlooking River Street and its riverfront. Of note, there is a public elevator going from Bay Street down to River Street (and back) right next to the hotel. Very convenient whenever you get tired of the “historic” (as in uneven) steps going between the two levels.

I recently participated in the Savannah Marathon. The Hyatt was the headquarter hotel, with the starting line right outside. Initially this was why I chose this location, but the hotel definitely lived up to the great location with awesome amenities. The hotel had restaurants open early for runners (most never do this!) and also had a very quiet atmosphere for those rising early! (4:00 came very early for this runner). I found the food at the restaurants wonderful, the hotel was clean, staff was helpful and efficient. I had left something in my car and the valet staff was so helpful they even offered to get it for me! Concierge had great suggestions on things to do and gave us a great haunted tour to go to.
I'll definitely be back in Savannah, and I'll certainly stay at this Hyatt again!

Room Tip: Rooms looking over the atrium were still great rooms ( I was concerned about noise, but its was NOT...

Green Features: There was in room recycling - I've never seen that effort before and truly appreciated it.

The Hyatt is in a great location, in down town, with easy access to the river walk. However, the walls are extremely thin. I was up all night hearing the people next to me. In fact, this was even after changing rooms. My traveling party had similar complaints. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous but that does not make up for the noise situation.

The hotel was easy to find and check in to. The valet parking was great. This hotel is located on the River Front and is close to the historic district. The location cannot be beat. I felt safe a secure while staying at the hotel even when working out alone in the fitness center.

The room was comfortable and adeqautely sized for 2 people in the room. The room was clean and well appointed. The only problem was the cleaning crew. We were in the room when they originally came to the floor to clean. We left and when we came back that evening, the room had not been cleaned. We called the front desk and they came and promplty cleaned the room.

The brunch in the restaurat was good. Nothing real fancy but worth the view of the river while you eat. As for in room service, we ordered room service for dinner and dessert. Our order arrived quickly. If you order room service, be sure to ask for condiments or extra sauce etc. They seemed a bit stingy with sauces etc on our order. We asked for additonal sauce and they brought it up to the room.

Great service, decent value, and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the front half of the building. The hotel is located next to City Hall and it h...

This is perhaps your best option for a modern hotel when visiting historic Savannah. The property is right on Bay Street within walking distance of everything of interest in the historic district. The rooms are well maintained if just a bit dated, the service is friendly and professional, and there is full service 24/7. There are lots of upscale and mid-scale properties within ten blocks of this hotel but if you are willing to sacrifice charm for a "big city" luxury hotel, you can't go wrong at the Hyatt.

The Hyatt is not the newest hotel, but you can tell that they try hard to keep it up. The location absolutely cannot be beat - right on the riverfront near restaurants and shops - just perfect. I also appreciate the large room that older hotels always have. I had a room on the corner of the building so I had a view out of windows on two sides of my room and I just loved it. I appreciated that you need a room key to enter from the riverfront area so that it was at least a bit of a challenge for non-guests to enter.
