“Planter's Inn wraps you in Grace, Charm and Care”

This is a special hotel. Their ad says it is a "200-year-old original boutique hotel." Indeed it is. The staff is wonderful. They go out of their way to help with any needs that you have. They do their job in a quiet, graceful manner that oozes the best of southern hospitality. We left feeling that we had stayed with friends, and that they honestly cared that our visit was enjoyable. Saying that it is clean, and a in a great location sounds crass to my ears. Of course it is, and much more. There is a beautiful park across from the front door where Spanish moss hangs from the trees. It is a great place to reflect on how lucky you are to be in this beautiful city.

Do use the valet parking offered by the hotel. It is about $15 a day, a huge discount for you over the regular prices charged by the parking lots.

There is a nice continental breakfast in the morning. They have a wine and cheese reception each evening, and warm cookies later on. Yummmm! The city tour shuttle will pick you up at the front door. Take the tour, you will learn a lot. You can get on and off as much as you want if you choose that option. They cost about $25 per person, and have 15 stops that takes about 1 1/2 hr. The hotel will arrange it for you.

We had mentioned that we were visiting for our anniversary, when we made the reservation, and requested a room with a nice view. We were in room 303, that looked directly at a high rise parking lot, and was directly across from the elevators. While they were unable to honor our request, there was a bottle of champagne chilling for us when we arrived.

There are no ice machines on the hotel floors and you have to call for ice. They replenish it for you when they do the turn down service each evening.

The Olde Pink House restaurant is next door and you do not want to visit Savannah and miss out on eating there. The food is excellent, and the building is seeping with history.

We love this city!

Room Tip: Try to get a park view if at all possible. The parking lot looms as the other option. We kept the bl...

We stayed at the Planter's Inn for two nights, Nov. 15 - 16. Very nice room, excellent location, reasonable price. I would basically recommend it.

But one story undercut our experience. A couple days previous to our arrival, having booked online, I received a "personal" email from the "hotel manager", describing various services and asking if there was *anything* else they could do to help. That was nice, I thought, so I clicked on the link which promised a reply, asking about the most economical way to get back from the Savannah airport when we turned in our rental car. Naturally, I was somewhat disappointed when I received no reply.

So when we checked into the motel, I asked the same question, and specifically whether there was public transportation to get back to the motel from the airport. Oh no, the deskies said, they'd never heard of a bus connection. But when I called our rental car company, they told me that sure, there was a bus that would take me right back down to the hotel.

Sure enough, there was. The bus stop was A BLOCK AWAY. The cost was $1.50, compared to the $28 fare the desk told me I would have to pay. As we prepared to leave, I asked the same question of (another group of) desk clerks, and once again, they "didn't know" about any bus connection back to the airport, and recommended that we just take the $28 cab. So again, we just took the $1.50 bus.

So please beware. Savannah is a tourist town. I can't prove it, but I think certain hotels, desk clerks, and cab drivers are scratching each others' backs.

Other than regarding the friendly deskies' recommendations skeptically, however, we would recommend the Planters Inn, if you can find an online hotel deal at a good price. It's a nice place, but watch your back.

My apologies-as we did find out, we do have public transportation available to the airport- this service started in October of this year. In all honesty, no one at the hotel knew that this existed.

One of the main reasons that people come to Savannah and the Planters Inn is for the experience- I would not recommend to our guests any transportation that would not add to their experience. I would be very hesitant to recommend this type of transportation to our guests for several reasons: 1) the service is not an express service but has seven stops prior to getting to the airport- with some of those stops in areas I would feel uncomfortable with guests getting off on- inadvertently. 2) In my experience, guests want a reliable service when trying to catch flights out of or coming into Savannah and this type of service may not afford a guest that dependability. We do not want to recommend a service that would not provide for the best guest experience. 3) The times of the service are not conducive to what guests "normally" need ( early morning departure and evening arrivals).

It is for these reasons that we do work with 2 local cab companies that afford our guests the type of service that we would want our guests to have. However, based on your comments, we will begin to place a link to the bus service on our welcome emails that I do send out for people that may want to avail themselves of the service.

All in all, I am certainly sorry that we did not know about the service to recommend it to you and thank you for bringing this to out attention - we will begin to offer this as an option.

The Planter's Inn is a couple blocks away from the touristy hubub of the riverside area, but it's still in the middle of the historic district. It's also very affordable. Look for the early bird special if you're reserving in advance. Some reviewers have complained that if you pay in advance that you have no control over your room, but our request for an upper level room was still granted.

Front desk service was friendly and welcoming, but the bellhop all but ignored me.

The room itself was clean and well appointed. The decor fits with the quaintly old-fashioned feel of the entire city. Some of it might be a bit dated, and a few tidbits--like the long tear in our curtain--mar the veneer surface, but these were all very minor. Our bed was slightly slanted back, so my husband, who has acid reflux, didn't sleep particularly well, but I was fine.

Breakfast was more than sufficient. You serve yourself from a buffet of pastries, cereals, grits, fruit, coffee, etc. Two newspapers (Savannah and USA Today) are delivered to each room, and we came back from dinner to find ice already in the bucket and mints on our pillows.

Warning--we had to pay $50 for two days of parking in the adjacent garage. Make sure you budget for that.

Room Tip: Book the early bird rate if you're sure your plans won't be changing. Request an upper room...

The employees were all very friendly and helpful, the room was pleasant and clean. The mattress had a little slope toward the center, which I mentioned to the manager. Location was excellent. Basic but abundant breakfast, lively wine and cheese "happy hour" in the attractive lobby each afternoon, tasty cookies in the evening. Valet-parked car was easily accessible in the next door parking garage when we needed to get something out of it. Very little noise from inside the hotel, but occasional street noises from the garage next door.

Following the advice of other Trip Advisor reviewers, we had requested a Park View room: we got room 401, which was spacious and nicely furnished, had a good view of Reynolds Square and was quiet at night. Reynolds Square is an excellent location - it is right in the middle of the Historic District, with lots of places to eat nearby, but has little trafffic. The free breakfasts were pretty good. We found the broadband speed was OK. The normal arrangement is that the hotel will valet park your car for $13/night. But we parked on a meter right outside the hotel, which was free over the Veterans Day holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for room 201, 301, 401, 501, or 601 (the higher the better). They all face onto Reynolds Square.

Everyone was so helpful. Special thank you to Susan, concierge extrodinaire! Loved the Pink House next door (go to the basement tavern). Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, could use some bacon or scrambled eggs... but who wants to eat in the hotel every morning anyway. Great location and everyone was really nice & helpful. Thanks!

Room Tip: garden view!

Stayed for two nights and really enjoyed the hotel: fantastic location for easy walking to many sites; nice continental breakfast; very nice cheese & wine in pm; very helpful staff.
Also recommend shows at Savannah Theater, about 1 mile away- great cast of musicians and singers providing shows Wed-Sat.
Really like Savannah's free DOT bus & ferry.
Many nice restaurants nearby, and the Pink House, next door, is most highly recommended too.
The Planter's Inn, Savannah Theater, Pink House are all historic buildings that are nicely up-to-date, yet you feel the history.
