We booked this hotel at the last minute as we were taking a holiday road trip up the East Coast. What a lovely surprise. The rooms were clean and full of character, the staff welcoming and helpful, and most importantly, the location is incredible. You basically just step outside the hotel and are on the riverfront with a large selection of restaurants and bars. The one negative is the lack of dedicated parking so we had to use the public pay parking spaces.
Overall, we had a lovely and memorable time in Savannah, and owe a good part of that to our choice of staying at the River Street Inn

We have stayed here the last two years in July and the service was perfect each time starting with Stan at the front desk when we checked in. The location cannot be beat if you want to stay on River Street and also have walking access to other points of interest on Bay Street and the historic area. The hotel is filled with class and character!

Room Tip: Fourth floor with a river view balcony

The River Sreet Inn is charming and has some good points. They are on River street in downtown historic Savannah. You can walk to the famous squares and to some very cute shopping botiques on Broughton Street, Do be careful while walking around and mindful of your surroundings. If you are at a conference being held in the convention center across the river, the ferry is right outside of your hotel. Very convienient! The hotel offers free coffee in the mornings and a nice happy hour reception at night (except Sundays.) The rooms have a river view or street view. The street view rooms are less expensive usually. The rooms are nice and have a coffee maker and robes to use.

There is a restaurant (Huey's) at the bottom of the hotel which boils shrimp and you can smell them all over the hotel. There is also some River Street Noise that you may hear at night if you have a room that faces the river side. Parking is a little problem and you must park in a parking garage if the VERY limited parking on the Bay Street side fills up. The hotel does have some vouchers for the city parking garage - be sure to ask for one as soon as you get there as they run out of them. That happened to us and it was annoying.

Overall this was a good hotel and I would stay again as there are far more pros than cons.

The location of this hotel is superb: right next to the River Street itself, as the name suggests; balconies (very small, though) overlooking the river. There is really no place to park, so we had to use the public parking deck opposite the hotel. The room smelled rather musty - okay I guess, given the age of the hotel and the hotel's objective of projecting an 'aged' image. The balcony door didn't close because of how old the locks were. So the night time sounds of the river street below can be quite disturbing. Not a problem on weekdays, but weekends are party time, so I heard loud music up to 3 AM! There are other hotels though in the area if you want a more 'modern' hotel (Hyatt, Marriott), but choose this one if you want a 'boutique' smaller hotel.

Room Tip: River view with balcony doors that work!

We were looking forward to staying at the River Street Inn, as we had read numerous reviews on this site that were full of praise. We took a trip to celebrate our anniversary in Savannah and decided to stay there because it was close to our dinner reservation and to other attractions. Our room was lovely, but upon looking in both the bed and bathroom we found numerous hairs in both places! To top it off, we killed two roaches that were crawling down the draperies. I realize that the hotel is old and historic, but it can be kept clean and pest-free.

Room Tip: Room had hair in bed and in bathtub. Killed roaches in draperies.

We came into Savannah late one night and were surprised to find no hotel rooms in the area. We lucked out walking into the River Street Inn who gave us a "walk in rate". The staff was so personable. The view from the hotel was great-right on River Street. And the room was decorated very traditionally with a fireplace and everything. Really a great experience.
