This hotel is in need of a makeover, as well as new management. The decor is old and tired; the spaces in the main area are poorly used with barely any furniture. The pools are small, the hot tub was not in use and filled with plants... terrible. We were woken at 4 a.m. by a really loud alarm- a dryer caught on fire- scary!! We were evacuated for an hour.

We stayed four nights and didn't receive new sheets once- even though there was clearly some chocolate on the bottom sheet that I dropped; apparently the housekeeper either didn't care or didn't see it; and after the fire we didn't get new linens the next day.

The restaurant was really bad. I ordered a chicken ceasar salad that's clearly on the menu for $13. It came to the table with no chicken- so I sent it back. When we got the check it was on there twice totaling $20. After I told the waitress she changed it to $10 instead of $13.... bottom line: they don't even know their own menu.

The outside area by the river is nice, and the tiki bar in the main area was ok- $9 for a vodka soda lime, but whatever, at least they have alcohol available. It's a little bit of a hike to the riverwalk, but they have the water shuttle right outside the back doors you can take.

If I worked for the Marriott Corporate offices, I would totally remodel and restaff this hotel.

Thank you for taking time to let us know about your recent stay. Comments, whether positive or negative, allow us to see our property from a guest's point of view.

I would like to apologize for the fire alarm incident. We certainly did not want to disturb our guests, but safety for all was our primary concern. Unfortunately, we were unable to provide clean linen the day after the laundry fire, but not having fresh linen the other days of your stay is unacceptable.

Please also accept my apology for your chicken Caesar salad being brought to you minus the chicken, as well as the discrepancy in menu price. Our restaurant manager is aware of the situation and will follow up with the associates involved.

It seems we fell short in our customary standards of service and guest satisfaction and I am sorry that was your experience.

Again, thank you for your review.

This hotel needs a refresher. You have to pay for internet unless you go to the lobby. The carpets are worn and old. Paint was peeling on some of the doors. Pretty well located and never had a problem parking. Staff was friendly. Nothing fun in site to do. Would say this is just an average hotel. Also the hotel is a bit noisy, as there is a large open area in the lobby.

Thank you for your review.

We take great pride in our courteous staff and their dedication to guest satisfaction and southern hospitality. We appreciate you acknowledging their friendliness, and your comments will be shared in our weekly staff meeting for managers to pass on to their associates.

You also mentioned parking availability and hotel location. We are fortunate to enjoy a prime riverfront view with easy access in and out of the hotel.

Another part of your review regarded areas that need addressing and we appreciate you bringing that to our attention as well. Comments, whether positive or negative, are important in that they allow us to see our property from a guests view point.

Again, thank you for your time.

Stayed four nights here for a meeting. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Room was very nice. Meeting room had sound issues; the doors were very noisy when people went in and out and PA system or acoustics were off.

My family of five has stayed here yearly since 2010. This year I noticed just how cordial the staff was! Every time we left the hotel the people at the bell desk asked about our day and were very welcoming. The restaurant Blue was amazing food and service! The location is perfect for touring the riverfront and downtown areas of Savannah.

We always prefer to stay at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront when we go to an annual meeting in Savannah primarily because our grandchildren love the indoor pool, but this year has a bit of a twist.

One night at 4 AM the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building. Yes, there was an actual fire in the clothes dryer on the fourth floor of the facility but it was quickly extinguished by Savannah's finest and after a bit of clean up time we were allowed back in.

Putting that aside, the staff was friendly and accommodating at check in and housekeeping kept the room just about as tidy and clean as you can with three grand children although we had to reuse all of the towels and sheets for another day because of the fire which was not their fault.

After all of these years it is time for the hotel to do a little upgrading in the public areas and in the rooms. Not that anything was shabby, but they need a little sprucing up.

The restaurant, "Blue", is OK, but over priced for what you get and I would recommend a short walk down River Street if you can.

The concierge floor is nice for the Marriott rewards customers for breakfast in the morning and drinks, snack, and desserts at night, but they need to keep it open on the weekends when they have a full house.

Will I continue to stay there, sure because of the little extras they do for me and because their staff really appreciates the business. That has a lot to say about a hotel.

Room Tip: Try for the 8th floor.

My husband and I went to Savannah to celebrate our 15th year anniversary. We booked a river front room and when we checked in they stated that none were available but they could offer a different room. I went to see what my husband wanted to do and suddenly they had a river front room available ($30 more per night by the way). We checked in and took our own luggage upstairs. The concierge was awesome and so were the guys getting taxis, but everyone else needed help. At 4:00 AM we were awaken by a screaming fire alarm and the hotel was evacuated. We remained outside for approximately 45 minutes and then allowed back in. Then again at 7:15 AM the alarm again sounded (this time a false alarm). The first was a fire and apparently in the laundry since we awoke the following morning with a note under our door indicating that linens would not be changed out since they were limited due to the fire. (Note there was not compensation offered by management). Later that afternoon, my husband and I were getting ready to go out and were watching the end of a movie (note that this hotel has no HBO, Cinamax, STARZ, etc., which you might expect for $298 per night for a single room (no suite) so it is just get what you get). Just at the end of the movie the lights went out and we missed the end of the movie -- that sucked but when the lights came back on we decided to go ahead and get ready to go out in case something else happened, which it did. Just as we showered, the lights again went out and neither of us could blow dry our hair since we would run late to our reserved event. The experience continued by the lobby telling my husband (who had just had two knee replacements and two heart attacks in the past 4 years) that there were no luggage carts available and then came by him carrying water on a cart. He took the cart and then they told him it would needed to be returned to them. At check out I spoke with the manager and stressed my frustration over the fact that a hotel like Marriott did not even attempt to compensate guests with a free drink at their lounge or a dinner at the hotel restaurant because I felt that was the least they could do. His response "I guess we will just have to agree to disagree." I assure you I disagree and would caution anyone staying there. They are more like a lower class hotel without even a gift shop for possible needed items. The Daniels

We welcome all guest comments, positive or negative because they help us see our property from a guest's point of view.

Congratulations on fifteen years of marriage. That you chose to celebrate at our hotel was an honor for us. That we failed to offer you the customary Marriott standards of service is evident by your review. It appears we fell short from the moment you came in to the hotel until you left. You did mention the concierge and bell staffs were helpful, but that in no way makes up for your disappointing weekend.

Our staff is here to make sure all guests have an excellent stay and to respond to guest needs quickly and efficiently. . I apologize for the lack of concern and inconveniences you experienced. Having a fire alarm sound and having to evacuate is certainly a scary event. Not being able to have fresh linen due to the laundry fire, another inconvenience.

Again my sincere apologies that your anniversary celebration was not what you planned and for our contribution.

Best regards,
