Pros: This hotel has a great location - really close to the pertinent activities. They have a good daily brunch buffet (meats and fruits rotate daily, best is on the weekends). Had a decent "view" of the river. Coffee, tea, and snacks at all times. Great concierge. Small but functional workout room. Mini fridge was big. Water pressure was better than average.
Cons: right on a MAJOR street - with semi-trucker traffic on riverside. Pillows and bed are so soft you don't really have a pillow - about killed my back. Fridge made extremely loud noise - for light sleepers, but the A/C is even louder - so it drowns out the other noises? or just you?

Room Tip: Chose city side if you can - to decrease noise level. Turn on A/C, fan or heater to drown out the ot...

My boyfriend and I recently stayed the weekend in Savannah as a quick treat. For the last 15 years I have always tried to stay in this Hampton for business or pleasure. The location can't be beat and the decor is charming. The staff is tremendous and a special shout-out to Carol at the front desk and Cathy at the concierge desk.

This past January MLK weekend we tried to book here but it was full and we ended up at the Garden Inn. The Garden Inn is very nice but the Hampton is always my first choice because I feel it is the prettiest, and most convenient, spot on Bay St.

One tip however - we had a 7th floor river view. Yes, the view was beautiful but you could only see it if you are standing up at the small, high window. The A/C takes up most of what you would expect to be the window. Sitting down, or from across the room, you will see nothing. We might try a slightly lower floor next time with larger windows but will definitely be back.

Room Tip: 7th floor windows are small and high. Can only see the view while standing up.

Nice hotel. Great location-close to River Street and several of the city squares, which are beautiful. Excellent service. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. There are many good restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are very comfortable, and well appointed.

My husband and I have stayed at several Hampton Inns over the years as we are Hilton Honors members. We chose this one for a 4 night stay due to its location. Hampton Inns have always been a very good choice, but this one had some exceptions. The staff was excellent! Very friendly and knowledgeable. Our refrigerator would not cool, and they replaced it quickly. Maid service was great. We were on the 7th floor, and our view was of the roofs of buildings next door. (not much of a view as the A/C unit covered half of the window) Location was excellent, as we could walk across the street to get to River Street. We did not eat breakfast there because we are late eaters, but there was always hot coffee available. We found a wonderful diner, called Henry's, where we ate a late breakfast or lunch each day.

We didn't use the rooftop pool, as it is small, and always had people there with a cooler just sitting around. But the view from the roof overlooking the river was great.

Now for the not-so-good stuff. Valet parking was $20 per day, and they have an underground parking garage, which is inadequate. Our vehicle was parked outside, in an alley, and it remained there the entire time! We expected it to be parked in a secure area, and do not feel that an alley is a secure and safe place. We saw that when the hotel parking garage got full, cars were parked in the public parking garage across the street, and in the alley.

Our previous HI stays have had excellent bedding, I think it was called Cloud Nine. Well, things have changed. Our king size bed had 4 small pillows(smaller than even a standard pillow), none of which were comfortable. The mattress was just a very cheap Serta mattress that was not comfortable at all, compared to the ones we have slept on at other HI's. The towels were smaller than average, and very course, not soft at all. Shower curtain was so thin that water seeped right through it and onto the floor no matter how careful you were.

This HI is an excellent place to stay based on location, but not worth the room rate that they charge for an average room.

Room Tip: try to get a room facing Bay street if you want a view.

Dear Hampton Guest:

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review. Thank you for pointing out the things you enjoyed about our hotel. I would also like to answer some of the questions you raised in your review. It is true that the hotel uses the city garage for overflow parking, and nothing about that goes against what the hotel advertises. We are valet parking only, so whether we park a vehicle underground or across the street, everyone still receives the same valet services. Also, the hotel has access to the city garage even when the 'general public' and self parking guest do not, due to 120 spaces always being reserved for the hotel. This is an added benefit for staying with us so that our guest do not have to worry about having to find parking in such a high volume area. All other products (with the exception of Mattresses) used in our hotel are HI standards. I hope this clears up any misconception.

Best regards,

Wasn't quite sure where to stay in Savannah. Read several reviews and from one previous visit, we knew we wanted to stay close to the river area and be within walking distance to the Old Pink House Restaurant. This spot was perfect. Our room faced the river & watching the container ships move down the river was amazing. Activity along the river front is a perfect spot to people watch, stop for a a bite to eat/drink or shop in any of the several shops along the way. The staff is wonderful & very accommodating. We arrived prior to 4pm checkin and our room wasn't ready. The front desk suggested places to go while waiting. Despite our early arrival, our car was valeted and 2 hours later, our valet was taking our luggage to our room. Perfect. Comfy pillows, clean room with mini fridge and desk area. There was noise….we could hear street noise, but it was easily overlooked. Everything about our stay was nice. The morning breakfast had everything a person could ask for - PLUS someone delivered fresh, hot, cinnamon buns to your table!!!!!!!! We'll be back. Great mini vacation traveling north.

Room Tip: We were on the 7th floor - rooftop pool was down the hall. nice view, nice chairs with towels avail...

We had an excellent visit to Savannah. We were traveling for the first time with our new, young service dog. My husband is a paraplegic and is wheelchair bound. Our room was perfect for our special needs and the staff was more than helpful.
