This is a really cool Fort. However, the staff here is extremely rude. We walked in with two highly decorated Junior Rangers, which over 100 badges each, and immediately were told they were closing in 15 minutes. Again, this is a place where they're ready to leave when the time clock hits 5 p.m. Don't be late because they will run you out! This junior Ranger booklet was very difficult so be prepared to spend some time and do some work because the Rangers won't help you either. However, this sport is a really good Recreation of how it looked been and it's an extremely educational place with great history and really nice exhibits. It's just frustrating for a junior Ranger but if that's not what you're doing don't miss this for it.

A beautiful recreation of the original fort. Fort Stanwix withstood a siege brought on by the British and their allies during the Revolutionary War. The fort played an important part in the protection of the U.S. northwest until it was abandoned 1781. In conjunction with Fort Stanwix, take a short drive and visit the Oriskany battlefield.

A very nice restoration. Lots to see and a very friendly staff. Many movies help you remember your history lessons of the time period.

Great example of a eighteenth century star fort. The day I was there was practically empty. Start at the visitor's center to get a background. Then move to the fort and walk the courtyard. Move outside and walk the perimeter to get a feeling of what it would be like to storm the fort. After the tour go out Rt.69 to Oriskany battlefield to complete the story. If you want to make a day of it, motor down I90 to Herkimer home site.

First this is a reproduction of the forts that was built on the site (there were a few). During the summer most of the fort is open to explore. In the winter the fort is closed, except for tours.
All the rangers are great. Many of the volunteers are just as passionate as the rangers when it comes explaining the history of the fort.
