We went to Makoto after trying it at least a year ago and it seemed to have improved. Large variety of seafood, sushi, assorted Asian stir frys, skewered chicken, good kim chee, desserts; the list goes on...we'll go back.

My very first time to eat in a Japanese Buffet category restaurant and my experience went beyond expectation...The presentation and the food is great!!!...All seafood tasted "fresh" and the multiple sushi selections is equally mouth watering...Downside? (if you call that downside really)--our used plates are not collected fast enough (or maybe we are just eating so fast that the waiter cannot catch up...) Overall, nice and friendly staffs although the place is not large enough to accommodate the "demand" of space for customers during their busy times---meaning= the food is really good!!!!

Having recently relocated to Vancouver, WA, we have had the pleasure of getting to know the area including trying a number of the good to excellent restaurants in the area, and a few that we will not mention. The Makato Buffet is easily accessed as it is on one of the busy north/south routes in East Vancouver. We arrived for lunch after 1 pm anticipating that the work crowd would be clearing out. The parking lot was still rather full and the restaurant was humming. We have been to a few buffets in our time and with our travels, and this one rates at the top. The all you can eat menu includes some very well know sushi types and a few that I had never heard of. They offer multiple prepared items from salads to rice to noodles, etc, and have a grill where you can create your own concoction which is cooked while you wait. While waiting to be seated, a couple of ladies came in and struck up a conversation with my wife. They were from the other side of Portland and drove all the way across the bridge and into East Vancouver due to the excellent choices at very reasonable prices, stating that "this was some of the best Sushi in the Portland/Vancouver area". This will be a regular stop for us after our visit today!!

I've been to several buffets in New York and Makoto is either comparable or better in food assortment and quality - and at a lower price.

Also, Makoto looked better and cleaner than the numerous ones I've been to.

Sushi is typical of buffets and many get it wrong. At Makoto, I found them both better in quality and more unique in what they offered. They went beyond the tuna (they still have that though) and excited with crazy combinations and colors with eel.

As for appearance, the dining tables were mediocre while the main buffet area + ceilings looked like the high end buffets I've seen at hotels in Asia .

The front desk American female manager is really rude. She acts like she does not care our business at all. We made a reservation for a big group. When we got there, we found they only saved us 4 separate small tables. (Can't they think, why would we need a reservation if we all sit separately? ) Anyway, we said we wanted those 8-person big tables. She said none of them available, and that's all they got, take it or wait. She won't let us sit on those small tables first, then move to the big table once they are available. While we are waiting, we saw two of the 8-person tables are cleared. So we asked if we can sit there. But the reply is we can only sit on one and spilt the rest because those two tables are on difference service area. How ridiculous? Is that a good reason of not seating customers? Finally we waited about 50 minutes before our group finally got the big table to seat. Anyway, your customer service really need to be fixed if you don’t want to lose more customers!
