Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Just ten minutes from downtown Boston and nestled inside the 64 beautiful acres of Larz Anderson Park, the Museum is home to “America’s Oldest Car Collection”. These automobiles form the Museum’s permanent collection and are housed within the Carriage House, built in 1888 and designed by the city architect of Boston, Edmund M. Wheelwright, who was also responsible for several notable Boston structures like the Boston Public Library. The Larz Anderson Auto Museum also offers enjoyable and informative tours, with varied and in-depth discussions on the automobile and its impact on society. Aside from the tour, we offer four different educational programs that range from kindergarten to high school and cover a variety of topics from early transportation to automotive design. Each tour offers hands on artifacts and real life observational tools. Visit the Larz Anderson Auto Museum for a day of exploration and fun that will create lasting memories for you and your group that is guaranteed to stay with you long after you leave.

“Best place for car people in metro-Boston”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

If you're a petrosexual and find yourself in the Boston area, this is a must see. The museum has a nice collection of early make automobiles. Its small and mostly covers '20s and '30s era cars, so don't go their expecting exotics or '60s-era muscle. Best part is that most weekends in the summer they have events on the lawn outside the museum--everything from a Cars-N-Coffee to single marque days or events dedicated to a country of origin. Check out their website for the latest schedule.

“Worth it if you can go for free”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

The museum is quite small but has a really nice set of cars and trucks dating back to the earliest form of motorized transport. Probably can provide about 30 minutes of diversion. We got in for free using the public library passes which made it worth it. I probably wouldn't visit if I had to pay full price as there are just so many other options for entertainment.

“Interesting car museum in an unlikely location”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

I took my son to an American muscle car outdoor exhibit. While at the car show we checked out the museum. There are all sorts of cars to check out. Definitely worth a visit for any car buff.

In the spring, summer and fall on various Week ends they offer different car shows, ie BMW, Italian car day, Mercedes car day, American Car day, and various other car days.

A fun day out for anyone who loves cars.

“Not taking advantage of what they have”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

It is a bit out of the way, but in a lovely park and housed in ia pretty building.
The collection has some gems but a lot of them are crowded in a small space in the basement.
I'm sure there are big financial restraints limiting change, as with most museums these days.

Fabulous cars from the Larz Anderson collection and others. Great Concours d'Auto all summer long. A must for anyone who loves cars as art as well as who loves cars for the wonderful machines they are.
