When I found myself with some free time in Washington Square last week, I wandered into Athan's Bakery in search of caffeinated refreshment and some tasty treats. It didn't disappoint! The iced coffee was delicious, and the worst thing about the baked goods was having to choose from the delicious array Athan's presented. I didn't sample the chocolate treats, but they looked divine too.

Seating is ample and the service was friendly, but a little bit slow (they looked understaffed).

After a delicious dinner at Washington Square Tavern, we sauntered across the street to Athan's for dessert. Its expanded since we lived here years ago, but the dessert choices were as delicious as we remembered.

There is plenty of seating now, as well as a coffee bar. But, really, go for the chocolately, delicious treats! Totally worth it.

We stopped after dinner for dessert and the chocolate pastries were fantastic. The almond yellow cake was good. The service was very good and she helped us select what we wanted- even discouraged us from selecting some!

Went for a sorbet after eating at The Abbey, which is right down the street. The Maracuya sorbet was sooooo good: refreshing, light and not too sweet. Also wished we had room to try some of the incredible pastries and desserts we saw in the display cases...looked so good!

We have been here numerous times. We were never disappointed. Their chocolate, cake and ice cream selection is great and each one we ever tried was very good. We recommend the chocolate in particular. The coffee is exceptional too.
