“Say "Couples"”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Pronounced "Couples," this bakery specializes in bagels and bagel sandwiches but has much more to offer including delicious pastries, treats and breads. The bagel sandwiches are named after T stops and include different mashups of smoked fish, capers, onions, tomatoes, egg salad, and a huge variety of cream cheese options including light and tofu flavors. The bagels are big and fluffy and the service is surprisingly friendly given the hectic lines you'll likely encounter, especially on Sunday mornings. This place is a Brookline institution that lives up to its reputation.

“Delish”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Great place for bagels (my favs are cinnamon raisin, whole wheat everything and jalapeno). They have a large variety of cream cheeses and pastries as well. The frozen dough are fantastic, especially when they are warm and fresh! Closed saturdays. Be prepared to wait in a massive line Sundays - but it's worth it!

“Big variety of bagels, pastries, cookies”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

Kupel's is awesome. This is the place for bagels, bagel sandwiches and other sweets if you're in Brookline. They're closed on Saturdays. The bagel sandwiches are delicious and I've had about 4 different ones, all of which are named after pro sports figures who played in Boston at one point in their careers. Last time, I got just an egg and cheese sandwich but tried it on the cinnamon glaze bagel - which can't be toasted due to it getting the toaster all sticky...it was still very tasty.
The coffee is fresh and they have a latte machine like most places but you'll return for the bagels. I haven't yet tried the turnovers or chocolate chip pastries but am looking forward to doing so next weekend.
There's seating for maybe 10 or so people indoors and in the summer they have a few tables on the sidewalk.

“Excellent bagel sandwiches, good bread selection”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Classic Jewish bakery with bagels, bagel sandwiches (with wide variety of cream cheeses and fixings), rugelach, hamentaschen, babka, etc. Large pastry menu, with many varieties of cookies, brownies, bars, danish, muffins, apple turnovers, etc. Kupel's also sells a wide variety of breads, including the usual challahs (several kinds), rye loaves, and pumpernickel, plus a very small selection of organic artisan-style breads. I've probably tried them all by now, and none have disappointed. Kupels does not, however, bake any crusty breads, so no baguettes or the like. Also, not much in the way of whole grains. The pastry items all seem to be made with white flour, no whole grain scones or muffins. The small selection of organic breads is a small step toward modernizing the offerings, and I'd love to see them do more in that direction.
