A great place to hike, bike, ride, fish, or camp. This is the pristine beauty of untouched Alaska. You can get away from it all out here.

We just stayed one night on the last leg of a wonderful trip. The hot springs were amazing, the room was awful!!! I have stayed at better MOTELS (because it was worse than some motels I have stayed at).

If we ever go again, we will stay elsewhere and just visit the springs. EVERYTHING is over priced for tourists ($12.50 for a begal and lox) and as you read other reviews you can see how much they charge for all. Our crapy room was $269 for the one night including the springs. We also decided to do the dog sled which at first glance I thought was $20 for 10 min ride. Oh no, it was $60 per person for a 2 mile/10 min ride. The folks are nice and I get its the high season but I think just a bit high priced.

We drove up to Chena River for the day instead of staying there because it was booked out. Glad we did it this way. It had seemed very pricey with reviews saying that the accomodation was a bit run down. Didn't take too long to drive out from Fairbanks and it's basically a straight road all the way, so you can't get lost. The ice museum is nice to see, very interesting to see them making their cocktail glasses from ice in front of you, but it's quite small, so there isn't very much to see - although the sculptures are impressive. The Geothermal tour is also interesting(and free). Hotsprings well worth it - $10 for the whole day - very warm, very relaxing and clean(but try to leave most of your gear in your car as the lockers are very small if you have a lot of winter gear). We had dinner in the restaurant - we had asked earlier if we'd need to book and were told no, but then did have to wait in a queue to get a table(but only for about 10mins). Starter(which arrived after our main course had been placed on the table) of duck tenders, had a great description so we had chosen it to share before our meal arrived - however, it was awful, totally dried out and very disappointing. The main course and the soup that they gave us as a side dish were all amazing - excellent flavours, really fresh. Setting was nice and relaxed.

Real Alaskan hangout! Camping is either free or at designated campgrounds along the road. Good climbing, great fishing, and awesome hiking, a must stop around Fairbanks!

Taking a dip in the hot springs in below zero temps is one of the most unique experiences we've ever encountered. I may go back to Fairbanks just to return to Chena for another dip.
