“Chena River Lodge Best Western”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

We stayed at this Best Western on Tuesday, 17 September 2013. The faciliy is CLEAN! The room and the bathroom were CLEAN! The beds are very comfortable. Our room was spacious, and very nicely decorated. The location is pleasant, private and away from any surrounding noise.with plenty of easy access parking.

The young lady at the front desk was the most proficient and friendly lady we dealt with during our entire 24-day trip, during which we stayed at a different motel every night.

The price for the overall quality of lodging is very favorable indeed. This room was the best room for the best price in one of the best locations of our entire trip. Our expectations were exceeded!

The hotel is fairly new and the rooms were nice and comfortable also. Good internet access as well. Its fairly easy to find and get to the hotel, and close to most things you would need to get to in Fairbanks. Its close to the Parks HWY, so if you are say coming in from Anchorage late at night and you don't know your way around Fairbanks, this place is a good bet and pretty easy to find. It does have a free breakfast in the morning including some hot items...of course not a 5-star buffet but very sufficient to get your day started.

We did personally not use any of the amenities since we were busy doing activities during the day and then aurora hunting at night. I would say give this place a try if you ever need a hotel in FB.

We booked this hotel for our first two days in Fairbanks just to get over initial jetlag and settle into the area before beginning our "real" vacation. We were expecting an OK place but we found it to be so much better that we wound up booking for another 10 nights, for our "real" vacation.

The hotel is located in a very convenient spot - only 2.1 miles from the airport; very close to the Fred Meyer store (which we loved), the Safeway, and other businesses and restaurants and tourist attractions.

The staff were mostly younger people, and every one of them was warm, cordial, polite, and helpful. By the end of our stay they almost seemed like family to us. In particular, I would like to commend Heather (desk staff) and Jackie (breakfast attendant) for their help and friendliness.

The complimentary breakfast is a big plus. They offered scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, potatoes, waffles that you make yourself with their waffle maker, cold cereals and milk, envelopes of instant oatmeal, donuts, toast, muffins, yogurts, fresh fruit, juices, and coffee. It may seem a small thing to others, but I was impressed by the fact that they used heavy-duty plastic forks, knives, and spoons as well as sturdy paper plates and dinner-quality napkins.

Our room was on the first floor and had a king-size bed which was very comfortable. The room seemed significantly bigger than rooms in similar hotels we have stayed at. I liked that toiletries were available two ways - on the tub wall there were dispensers filled with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. In the area with the sink, there were little tubes of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion, as well as two little soaps - all having a wonderful berry fragrance. We also made good use of the in-room microwave and mini-fridge to heat or store the $8 dinners that we bought at the Fred Meyer deli.

The desktop computer in the "business center" room was rarely used by anybody else, so I frequently went there to use it while my husband used our laptop in our room. We also took advantage of the guest laundry to do laundry during our extended stay.

The hotel seemed clean, modern, and well-maintained.. It was large enough to provide all the amenities we wanted but small enough to have that "boutique hotel" feel. I can't think of any negatives except to possibly increase the seating capacity in the breakfast area and perhaps add a couple of drawers in the rooms (there were only two drawers).

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor, facing the main drag, but the property is set back far enough that...

The beds are amazingly comfortable.
The room is extremely clean.
Breakfast - very nice w/ friendly staff.

Needs improvement: Window was left open when I arrived - was 62 degrees in room - but was able to bring up temp quickly. Water temp for shower needs to be hotter - had it cranked all the way up - and it could have been warmer.

Room Tip: Choose river side.

Great hotel, great staff, great room, awesome bed. This hotel is close to the airport, and located on a main road near chain stores and restaurants. The accomidations are modern, and the bed is THE most comfortable one I've stayed in while traveling for work. I'm more than happy to stay here again.

Even though the Best Western is a chain, we were not disappointed here, because of the good location (near the highway, diagonally across the street from Fred Meyers, a 10-15 minute drive from the University of Alaska - Fairbanks), and all standard amenities. With a AAA discount, the off-season rate was under $70 so we considered this a terrific value. The breakfast had everything you could want (except oatmeal -- that was a surprise), the front desk staff was extremely gracious upon check-in (although later a different staff person seemed not very interested in his job, so I felt I was bothering him). There is a coin-op laundry room with a very efficient stacking washer-dryer. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, there was a microwave and fridge -- all the comforts of home!

Room Tip: We had a "forest view" room, which we think would be preferable to rooms on the parking lo...
