Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge

We'd been here over-night, 4 years ago, as part of the Princess Cruise-tour, and found it comfortable. So, this time, after the cruise, we came here on our own for 5 days, specifically to catch the Aurora. It's still comfortable, and certainly inexpensive, room-rate wise. But the food is pretty steep. Their continental breakfast, the same breakfast that is free at most hotels, is $12. Want crab? $52. There's a great market nearby, so we stocked up on breakfast/lunch goodies for the duration. But, all in all, even though it's the end of the season, and though the hotel is practically empty, the staff has been friendly, the room adequate, and the view of the river, and the gently falling snow - spectacular.

Room Tip: Request a river view.

The lodge over all was very nice. Price of the rooms are a lot le$$ if booked directly and not with Princess Cruise/Tour Pkg. Don't expect a wake-up call if the Aurora Borialis shows, check on line to see if or when and set your own alarm.

Room Tip: Special request was not honored.

Our only issue was with the downtown shuttle transport which was about one half hour late picking us up.
Room was comfortable and they stowed our bags before we left for the airport late that night. I thought the dining room was a little expensive. We walked to Pikes Restaurant for dinner and I saw other guests there also.

The location along the river was really beautiful. There was a walking path and seats along the trail to sit and relax. The public area of the hotel were very nice, like we expected. I can't say the same about the rooms. I would rate them as average, none of the extras you would expect at a resort location. We enjoyed our stay, our room at the Best Western Plus was actually nicer and more comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for just a night before heading on a tour with Princess. The room looked kind of run down, plain, no frills. But the bed was comfy and I slept well! The view was of the water. There was no lotion or shower cap, but the shower had containers that dispensed shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. The shower was warm, but had low pressure. Breakfast the next morning was a buffet for $11 (continental) or $17 (hot buffet). I ordered off the menu for a $4 hot oatmeal! The dining room was big, service was friendly. Really, it's probably just a place to crash for a night or two.

We stayed 2 nights at the Fairbanks Princess. The lobby is nice, as is the exterior and location on the Chena River. The rooms are completely average, bedding below average. No duvet, extra pillows, etc, although the room was clean and carpet fresh. The bathroom was low average. We really expected more, as it is a Princess, but it is like a Best Western, as far as the rooms go. We would likely stay there again, as there is nothing much better in Fairbanks. The staff was friendly and the restaurants were good, we especially liked eating outside on the deck by the river.

This lodge is a little run Down in the rooms... Lobby and other common areas in great shape. Can not beat the river view. Tour staff not all that friendly end of the season I guess... Hotel front desk staff very nice. If you want friendly restaurant service visit Pikes next store you will not get it here.
