“Pretty Decent - Lacks Entertainment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2009

Great rooms. Good service, maid service is excellent. Staying in one of the suites with plenty of room. Don't understand why they do not offer more TV/movie stations other than the 12 they do have. Internet service is very weak. Everytime I try to get online, it is extremely slow. They should look into more modern technology for servers and routers. Fitness center is borderline ok. Equipment is low end, recumbent bike is a back killer! They need to provide some disinfectent spray or wipes for the equipment for users to wipe down after use. Steak and eggs for breakfast are excellent.

Our stay at Sophies Station was pretty good but we did have one or two complaints which could have been easily avoided. First of all, the suite itself was fantastic for the price - our bedroom had two queensized beds, the bathroom was fine, and the kitchen and sittingroom were great. There was a Safeway next door for food and drink. There was free hots drinks (coffee, tea, and apple cider) in the lobby which was great for the cold early mornings. Our two major complaints were that we contacted the hotel by email asking for a pickup from the railway station (which they advertise) but they didn't turn up. A bigger complaint was that we asked on check-in for a Northern Lights wakeup call (which was also advertised), which never happened. Considering that the hotel did not seem busy, there was really no excuse for this. Our main reason for going to Fairbanks was to see the Northern Lights but even after reminding them, we didn't get a wakeup call. We did head out to the carpark one night just in case and we did get to see the Lights but we found out afterwards that the Lights were much clearer and vibrant on previous nights. If you stay here, don't rely on this service.

We selected this hotel for a business & pleasure trip to Fairbanks based on other reviews on TripAdvisor. We were disappointed. We requested a room with a king-sized bed, but first got one with a queen-sized bed. Since the hotel was full, we were moved but to a room right over the bar, where we would hear the big screen TV until 11 P.M. (when fortunately, the bar closes). There was no one to help with our (and we travel with lots) luggage on check-in. There were too few people staffing the front desk, leading to lines for check-in and check-out, and the people staffing the desk were earnest but mostly untrained. We didn't get a bill when we checked out (thought the room was being direct billed to a client) but then it appeared on our credit card statement. The room itself had a very small bathroom. Overall, not a great experience.

we had a room that did not face the parking lot. our room was very peaceful. our room was not a hotel room, but an apartment. we had a living room, a full kitchen with a huge stove, refrigerator, a full bedroom and a bathroom with a huge closet. it was obvious that this was a converted apartment. there was an open, full balcony and in the bedroom a window which opened wide. there was a window air conditioner in the bedroom and the hotel provided us with an an enormous portable fan for the living room. we needed these items because it was pretty hot when we were there. the best part - the entire unit was completely SPOTLESS. yes the furniture and decor did appear dated, but what in the world is there to complain about when the place was immaculately clean. the bathroom, bathtub, sink everything about it was spotless. the carpeting was newer and was clean. when we came in from dinner, a man was there steam cleaning the carpeting in the hallways. it is obvious that this place values cleanliness as priority one. the staff is also very kind and knowledgable. i would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in fairbanks. other top 3 and 4 star rated hotels need to take a lesson from this hotel on how to clean their bathrooms and hotel rooms. every single part of the shower, the grout, the tile, the tub, the mirrors, everything, absolutely sparkled. we would not hesitate for one second to stay here or recommend the hotel. the hotel is across a very large parking lot to safeway. on the corner is a fred meyer. there is also a taco bell right next to the fred meyer. starbucks is inside fred meyer. it is a somewhat long walk to any of these places. the hotel does sell bottled water at the front desk also. we were VERY hesitant at first as this was not a nationally-recognized chain hotel. we stayed here based solely on the trip advisor's rating. THANK YOU TRIP ADVISOR for another fantastic recommendation!!!

Stayed one night after a 1 wk cruise. Spacious, clean room with kitchenette. Great location. Beautiful flowers. Would have loved to spend several more days there, but clearly on my list of places to stay. No opportunity to use dining services. Staff very helpful.
Comfortable. Working amenities. A definite "A".
