My husband and I travelling from England, stayed here during our tour of the Yukon and Alaska, it is a very nice hotel, lots of stuffed animals in reception and a small gift shop. We had a largish room overlooking the Chena River which gave us a pleasant view, pity that the balcony was only big enough to stand on. The room had a king sized bed, sofa and chair and a flame effect gas fire which I can imagine looks lovely in the winter months and decent curtains to block out the “midnight sun” if required and the usual coffee/tea hairdryer. The down side was that the restaurant was not open at all so could not eat (apart from buffet breakfast) in the hotel, however Pikes Landing is literally across the parking lot and the food there is not bad. It was very busy for the whole 3 days we were there so sometimes getting a table was difficult, especially I think, because there is no air conditioning in the restaurant so nearly everyone was sitting outside. The only gripe is that there can be a lack of communication between the hotel and the Pikes Landing restaurant in regard to charging to your room. Upon arrival at the hotel we were told by the hotel reception that we did not need any type of authorization card to show at Pikes Landing to charge food/drink back to our room only our room number or room number card or key to show them, however it seemed that there was a lack of communication between the 2 places and each time we were asked for authorisation card we had to go through the whole “reception told us we only need to give room number or show you the room card” to be told “we cannot charge without authorisation and they know that” they then had to go and check, which was a bit of pain. When queried again with hotel reception and manager we were told that no card was necessary for hotel guests and that Pikes Landing staff know that!

Thank you for your kind comments on Pike’s. You stayed in my favorite room at the hotel! I apologize for the confusion on charging at Pike’s Landing. You were supposed to have a small printed paper card that authorizes your being able to charge there. Fortunately you alerted us to a training problem and we fixed it today with the front desk staff. I am sorry that this caused you walking back and forth and again am grateful that you pointed out this problem. Deborah

My husband and I were traveling to visit family north of Fairbanks. We used the AOPA directory to find a hotel as we had no internet service at our originating point of Lake Iliamna. We called another hotel and then Pike's. We decided on Pike's because the staff sounded very professional and Robert told us that they would be able to pick us up at the airport upon arrival.

Our driver, Fernando set the tone for a wonderful stay. When we arrived at the lodge we were overwhelmed by how pretty it was and how warm and welcoming the staff was. Upon check-in we were given wooden tokens for a free ice cream at their lobby ice cream stand. We arrived too late to eat dinner in the hotel but were given names of restaurants that would deliver. We were so tired that after we unpacked we just had ice cream. I think it was the best ice cream I've ever had! They make it in small batches and the flavors were fantastic.

After the ice cream we went to the gift shop. The lovely woman working there must have been psychic because she gave us complimentary microwave popcorn to make in our room. A perfect snack before bed to get us through to morning!

The room was great, the beds were comfortable and the hotel is trying hard to be eco-friendly. For example, they have solar panels on the roof to take advantage of Fairbanks' long summer days.

The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. Our driver in the morning, Dayna, was energetic and enthusiastic. She was a delight to meet.

Once we had internet and could look up reviews on Pike's we learned that it was ranked #2 in Fairbanks. That was good to know, but in our book it is number 1!

Front desk staff possessed little knowledge of local activities and events or things to do. Hotel staff was rude and disinterested when asked questions about local tourist attractions. After staying at hotel 4 nights, we were told we would have to switch hotels due to the hotel staffs poor booking techniques (we were us military personnel on official business and only needed to stay there one more night). During this process, one front desk worker (wearing a name tag that stated "princess") was very disrespectful and rude to us.

The rooms were small and cramped with furniture. The hotel is located next to the chena river and has a nice view.

If you are paying for a vacation to alaska, I recommended staying at a hotel that not only has a nice view, but has employees that care about your overall experience--pike's waterfront lodge is not one of those hotels!

First of all, i got a great rate (114$) by booking very early, and that is an exceptional rate for fairbanks in June, so that tempers my review a bit.

PROS
very friendly, nice staff
very clean and quiet
nice location on river
good restaurant next door - always crowded, so it must be doing something right
close to airport with free shuttle (to train station as well)
good wifi connection

CONS
not much else around hotel for meals
not close to fairbanks attractions (need a rental car)
tour groups that can crowd up the check in and lobby areas

with a special rate/coupon this is a great choice for fairbanks for someone who has a rental car to get around

I was favorably impressed by Pikes and I’ve concluded it is one of the better places to stay in Fairbanks. Great rooms, a good assortment of restaurants, and a beautiful deck on the Chena River all add to the attractiveness. The hotel is definitely geared toward tourism and there are generally busloads of tourists going in and out at all times of day. The location is very handy to the airport, only a few minutes drive down Airport Way. A 5 minute drive in the other direction brings you to a shopping area where there is a Fred Meyers, Safeway, fast food, and numerous other conveniences. There are good places to run and walk nearby along the river.

The rooms are fairly roomy and spotlessly clean. All the furnishings are comfortable and the rooms are well sound-insulated – no airplane noise from the airport across the road. There is free Wifi throughout the main hotel complex. The freestanding cabins are a bit on the small side and don’t have Wifi. After staying in both, I definitely preferred to be in the main lodge rooms.

The fitness room is a bit of a joke, with only 3 mediocre cardio machines and no weights – disappointing. Fortunately there were decent places to run/walk in the neighborhood. The restaurants were really good though a little bit pricey. We generally ate breakfast in the main restaurant where they had a good assortment of buffet style hot and cold dishes. We spent our evenings at Pikes Landing restaurant enjoying the late evening sunshine on the riverside deck. The food was great, particularly the Alaskan seafood, and we never tired of the menu and the river view. Really a great spot!

Overall I had a great hotel experience at Pikes and would definitely recommend it to all travelers, particularly if you want to be handy to the airport. I found it to be reasonable value, getting a special rate of around $130/night. Well done, Pike's!

Thank you for your kind words; I prefer the quiet of the cabins and that they are stand alone. we are currently working on an upgrade of our wireless system with a new router and access points. For the fitness room, we do have free weights in a corner in addition to the treadmill, bicycle and elliptical machines. It is a small room and we try not to oversell the amenity. I will put a picture of it on the web site. Thanks for your comments. Deborah

This made my otherwise boring trip to Fairbanks very enjoyable.

Nice, clean room. Great meal at Pike's Landing next door. And cool view of the ice flow down the river as I dined. Very friendly locals.

I'd definitely go back.

Stayed here one night as part of a cruise package. Hotel location is very close to airport, but there was no noise that we could tell and the proximity didn't bother us a bit. The hotel truly has a "local" flavor and decor - you certainly know you arein't in yet another cookie-cutter hotel chain. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and the rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast buffet has two choices - either a full breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage) or a "continental" with breads, yogurts, etc. We had one of each and they were both good and filling. Right next door is a very charming restaurant right on the river with decent food and a great atmoshpere - Just be sure to bring bug spray as the mosquitos will be on you at no time at all! I would definitely recommend staying at Pike's if you have a choice. They also have a free shuttle to the airport which is very helpful.
