Pros: coffee in room is good. Water pressure good. Nice workout room. Great TV and toiletries. Close to airport.

Cons: For $200 a night, you'd think breakfast would be included (it was $18 pp). Workout room was 85 degrees, so could not use it. Bed slightly saggy. Far from downtown/places to eat (but downtown isn't that nice....so....). Chipped paint in shower.

Thanks for taking the time to review us. Regarding breakfast, we endeavor to clearly communicate when breakfast is included and when it is not. I am at a loss on how to respond that you think that breakfast should be included since with your room rate it was not. We do have specials that do include breakfast or, as you mentioned, you can buy breakfast for an additional charge. As part of your room rate, we do include wireless internet and access to a workout room as well as refrigerators and microwaves in each room. Additionally, in the summer, we include free putting on our putting green and bocce ball. Alaskans, on check in, receive a free token for an ice cream cone.
We do hope that you come back in the winter when breakfast is included in your room rate!

Months before starting our trip, we reserved a room on the 3rd floor, facing the river, in the main lodge building. We were told that this was the best room location to see the aurora. When we arrived, we were informed that our room selection had not been reserved for us. Instead, we were placed in a log cabin separate from the main building, but along the river. What we realized was that the main building is mainly for cruise-line tourists, so we had been bumped. When you travel apart from a tour group, this can happen because you don't have the financial leverage to get what you request.

As it turned out, the cabin was actually better. It was quiet, had all of the amenities and was $50 per night less. The bump worked out well for us.

Public buses stop at the busstop at the road on a published schedule. However, the buses at this location are not frequent enough to be practical. We decided to rent a car for a couple days, which gave us all the freedom we needed to see everything in the Fairbanks area that we wanted. It also allowed us to avoid the high cost of food at the hotel.

The hotel does provide transportation to places that are fairly close by such as the airport and other select locations.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the cabins close to the river. It will be quieter than in the main building with excited tourists running about.

Thanks for your review; I do believe that there was some miscommunication on the rooms though. You were moved to a better room category. As you noticed, the cabins are much nicer with a kitchen area and fans as well as air conditioner which are great in the hot summer that we are having! I am glad that you enjoyed your room and hope that you come back.

Pike's is a clean, well decorated, cozy place to stay in Fairbanks, AK. The staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well equipped for a multiple day stay if needed.

The breakfasts were excellent, though there was some confusion by the staff as to how late the breakfast would be served on one day. I missed it, but the desk clerk was nice enough to run back to the kitchen and grab some muffins and jam for me.

I have one small complaint, and one slightly larger complaint. Small complaint: location is very attractive, but not very convenient to the rest of Fairbanks (although it is VERY convenient to the airport). They do have a shuttle van that will pick you up at the train station, and that will also take you into the downtown area from the hotel (though not much to see), but you may have to wait a bit for the van.

The bigger complaint centered around the restaurant that they have adjacent to the hotel (not where breakfasts are served). This is a full service restaurant with an extensive menu and drinks. The problem is that the staff is not nearly as accommodating as the hotel staff; in fact, they can be downright unfriendly, especially if you come in anywhere near closing time when they want to get home. This is the problem -- the hours are terrible for dinner. The restaurant closes at 9:00 PM during the week. The big issue is that the train from Anchorage doesn't get in until around 8:15. By the time you get to the hotel and checked in, the restaurant is closing (and you get the frowns), or is closed and you are turned away hungry. The same was true when we returned by bus from Coldfoot, AK after several hours travel, and found the restaurant closed. Worse, there is no nearby restaurant as an alternative, and the van was not to be found. Dinner consisted of guest cookies in the hotel lobby, bed on an empty stomach, and a missed breakfast the next day because of miscommunications.

This problem is easy to solve with some training of the staff, and an adjustment of closing time to 10:00 PM weekdays.

Other than these food issues, I would recommend Pike's when in Fairbanks. In fact, though I went all the way past the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights, the most spectacular display I saw was in Pike's parking lot down by the Chena River. Don't count on that as part of the package though!!

I spent the past weekend at the Lodge to attend a convention. My room had a beautiful view of the Chena River and I got to watch the ducks and even 4 swans swim past the Lodge. The free breakfast was great with make-it-yourself waffles, fruit, pastries, and several choices of cereal. I loved the free chocolate chip cookies and the ice cream in the evenings. the lobby has some awesome seating areas with a TV in one section and a fireplace in another. some of us sat in the lounge area until almost 2 in the morning talking. The lodgs also had some rescued ducklings in a cage in the lobby. You could buy food for them, and watch them. the staff takes very good care of them, even taking them into a bathtub for swimming lessons. The aromatherapy room was a life-saver for me. I had a terrible cold and the therapy in the steam room helped clear my sinuses. the hotel is near the airport, but just on the edge of town. The food in the restaraunt was plentiful, although there was NO substitution allowed and service was sometimes very, very slow. Staying there was a great experience, and I will probably stay there again.

Room Tip: ask for an odd numbered room..they overlook the river and not the street!

Thank you for taking the time to write. We are glad that you enjoyed the various features of the hotel including the aromatherapy. We are installing a Bocce Ball court this summer and hope that you can play it this summer! Sorry about your service issue at Pike's Landing. It's a great place to watch the river roll by in the summer.

Pike's Waterfront Lodge is just a great place to stay, very Alaskan, as are we, and a very friendly atmosphere. We had reservations for a Friday and Saturday night stay, which included their wonderful complimentary breakfast, a nice selection of healthy foods along with some delicious pastries. Coffee service is available in the lobby and delicious cookies in the late afternoon, makes it like coming home! We've lived in Alaska long enough to know that this is one great hotel, from the friendly staff, including very efficient house keepers, to very comfortable rooms, with comfortable beds, much appreciated with my goofy back! Great wi-fi reception too.

Room Tip: This is a very popular hotel, so book early.

Thanks for your review and for mentioning the cookies! We have them all winter long along with the free ice cream in the evening from 6-8 pm in the lobby. In the summer, we offer free putting overlooking the Chena River and free Rock Throwing (one of our most popular attractions given the volume of rocks that we go through). We are glad that you enjoyed the hotel and hope that you come!
