This was the last night of our Alaska cruise tour experience. Ending it here reminded me that AK is populated by wonderful, friendly, and perhaps just a little bit eccentric people. Pike's is a river-front hotel that, along with the restaurant next door, was originally built by a homesteader. That familial origin shows up in everything from the really eclectic décor to the fine personal service.

The hotel is not new. Nor has it been seriously renovated at any time as far as I could tell. And that's OK -- it has it's own unique 'style' that worked for us. The room itself was nothing very special, although it was on the third-floor with a tiny balcony overlooking the river. You couldn't enjoy the balcony as it was over some main floor AC units that roared constantly. Thankfully, we found the small room AC unit to be adequate (barely) for the high temperatures that AK was enduring while we were there. The room was clean, pretty basic, and had fairly comfortable bedding.

We had dinner and drinks at Pike's restaurant next door and can recommend the deck setting when the weather is nice and the river is running.

This hotel is a little out of town but a great place to unwind. The lobby has some great decorations with the Alaska theme of the outdoors. The staff were all friendly and we were lucky enough to have our own log cabin on the river. Food was good and there is a bar 50 yards away with a large deck. Plenty to do close by and the river traffic is very interesting.

Room Tip: Try to get a river view. The river has a range of boats and floating devices just cruising down the...

Nice place. Friendly staff. Shuttle to run you into town.Stayed there at the beginning of a cruise tour. If you get in late head next door to restaurant before they close. Great breakfast buffet(charge).

Clean, comfortable, some nice views of the river. Not awesome but definitely decent. Part of a cruisetour of Alaska. The bar next door also has some decent beer on tap and there were locals there which speaks to it's edibility. :)

Thanks for your comments; yes, the bar next door is popular with locals and the beer is quite good. The opportunity to hit the ball across the river started as a Girl Scout fundraiser and is quite fun too!

Great end to a land tour. Rooms were very comforatable and clean. the staff is faboulous, and their chef is wonderful. the grounds are very clean and well maintained. there are an abundance of things to do at the resort. special thanks go out to Patty the GM, she let us borrow some big towels for our day trip to the Chena Hot Springs. Thanks for writing that you enjoyed your stay and for mentioning our tireless General Manager and Assistant General Manager who probably don't get noticed for great service as much as they should be.
Cheers!

We arrived by train and took the hotel's shuttle to the hotel. There was miscommunication with the shuttle picking us up and we had to wait quite a while at the depot. When we arrived at the hotel the restaurant next door was getting ready to close but the lounge was still open until midnight - not entirely sure where one of those entities stopped and the other began, but we were fine sitting outside on the patio having late dinner and some adult beverages.

The hotel staff was very friendly and nice, we had lovely visits with Judy at the front desk/gift shop as well as with everyone at the front desk we encountered. The reader board when we were there boasted this was the friendliest resort in Fairbanks and other than the shuttle drivers I was pretty convinced.

We were able to take the shuttle from the hotel to the east ramp of the airport for a private sightseeing flight and then back; and then also to the regular terminal to catch our flight the next morning. It was unfortunate we were unable to reserve the shuttle, you just go to the lobby when you are ready and then wait for the driver to be ready - so if you have an appointment or a check in time be sure to leave adequate time!

I loved the quirky nature of the resort - free rock throwing? Perfect! A single hole putting green along the river? Nice! Outdoor billiards? Looks like fun! We were blessed with great weather and lots of sun in late May and really enjoyed the details. There was also an aromatherapy steam room on the second floor and I'm quite tempted to come back during the winter/aurora time when it would feel wonderful - with temps in the 80s it just wasn't as appealing. I would consider staying here if we return - if I was planning to see more of Fairbanks I'd try to rent a car though.

Thanks for writing us about how much you enjoyed staying with us. We are sorry about the shuttle confusion and recently changed our procedures. We have scheduled Railroad and Riverboat shuttle, airport pickup on request, and downtown shuttles on the hour and half hour. We have experienced an unprecedented demand for shuttle service this summer on Monday and Tuesdays. I do agree with you that if there are many places you want to go, renting a car is most practical and parking is free at Pike's.
Thanks again,
Deborah

Pros: coffee in room is good. Water pressure good. Nice workout room. Great TV and toiletries. Close to airport.

Cons: For $200 a night, you'd think breakfast would be included (it was $18 pp). Workout room was 85 degrees, so could not use it. Bed slightly saggy. Far from downtown/places to eat (but downtown isn't that nice....so....). Chipped paint in shower.

Thanks for taking the time to review us. Regarding breakfast, we endeavor to clearly communicate when breakfast is included and when it is not. I am at a loss on how to respond that you think that breakfast should be included since with your room rate it was not. We do have specials that do include breakfast or, as you mentioned, you can buy breakfast for an additional charge. As part of your room rate, we do include wireless internet and access to a workout room as well as refrigerators and microwaves in each room. Additionally, in the summer, we include free putting on our putting green and bocce ball. Alaskans, on check in, receive a free token for an ice cream cone.
We do hope that you come back in the winter when breakfast is included in your room rate!
