“Excellent customer service and great views!”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

The staff went out of their way to accommodate us when our luggage did not arrive here from Denali. They kept checking with us to see if they could help and allowed us a late checkout so we could take showers when our luggage finally arrived. The room was large with a great view of the river.

Room Tip: Room 351 was a corner room with a large suite and lovely view. Odd rooms face the river.

Thanks for writing; you did get an exceptionally lovely room; 351 is one of our best. We are happy that we were able to accommodate a late check out. We can not always do this due to room occupancy levels but we do try to meet guest needs particularly in your case with lost luggage. We hope that the rest of your trip goes well.

We were brought to this property as a result of our Alaska Cruisetour with Royal Caribbean. It was absolutely the best accommodations we had in the 2 weeks of the vacation (well, maybe the cruise ship was just a bit more elaborate!). It was exactly what I expected for an Alaskan hotel. The hotel was full of character (art work, artifacts, room decor, log construction) yet it also had great amenities (air conditioning, a great on-site restaurant, lovely floral landscaping, outdoor seating areas). The restaurant next to the property had a very nice outdoor seating/eating area that looks out over the Cheena River. The room was very large (we had one king bed with a sofa, desk/chair, microwave and refrigerator with space that looked like a small living room) and the housekeeping job was excellent. We've decided if we come back to Fairbanks, Pike's Waterfront Lodge will be our place to stay. We even were encouraged to peek into the cabins that they also have to rent on the property, and the housekeeping staff was very happy to show one to us. Every person we interacted with on the property did their best to be friendly and helpful. Royal Caribbean made an absolutely wonderful choice to have their clients stay in Pike's Waterfront Lodge.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a balcony which offers a view. Unfortunately, we were not on the "river side&q...

Thanks for writing. We try very hard for the service level for which you commended us. Our Executive Housekeeper, Michelle, has been with Pike's for 12 years and does a super job with her staff. We host a variety of guests, from locals looking for a night out to business people to tour guests such as yourself and want everyone who stays with us to experience friendly warm service and are so glad that yu wrote it abut your positive experience. We share all guest comments with our staff so it helps reinforce the positive! Also, when you come back, you should play on our free Bocce Ball courts by the cabins!

We stayed at Pikes while on a cruise/tour with Celebrity Cruises in May. We found it a very nice, comfortable stay and loved the view and amenities. Did find the prices a little high in the dining room, but food was good.

Room Tip: We had a room on the backside of the hotel with an excellent view of the river.

Thanks for writing. We are trying very hard for what your title said "Nice with a country atmosphere". That is why we have some of the funny signs, antique for Fairbanks signs and features in the hotel including some very fine paintings in the lobby. We have also improved the exercise rooms, making it 24 hours and and Bocce Ball.
Thanks for staying with us.

Spent two nights at Pike's on a cruise tour trip. The rooms are of average size, the TV is comically small, but the room was clean and there were wall A/C units in the room (although they were off on arrival to our 85 degree room....wasn't pleased with that decision).

My review here will be probably my shortest ever, but there just isn't much to say about the property. It was fine. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad.

There is both a continental and hot breakfast option at the hotel in the rear dining room (they need an accountant because the price difference between the two can't possibly make up for the increase in offerings). Pike's Landing Restaurant (making the assumption they are owned by the same company), was solid for dinner and drinks.

Hello and thanks for writing. We appreciate your taking the time to write about Pike's. As information, we are in the process of replacing our older small flatscreen televisions with 40 inch flatscreen televisions. I won't bore you with the details but the delay involved many of the issues of living in the interior of Alaska including our waiting on furniture changes in other rooms. the new ones should be here next Thursday.

The room was clean, I had a nice view of the cabins and the Chena river from my deck. Walking into the lobby, there were several mounts and large comfortable looking furniture which felt very inviting and gives the place a kind of lodge feel. The wall space is covered with Alaskan kitschy-type stuff, some informative some just appeared to be advertising such as the cheddarburger served next door. I tried it, it was alright but I'm not sure it is worthy of as much wall space as it occupies in the hotel next door. Near my room a local couple was featured with a little story about their involvement in Fairbanks which was much more appropriate and appreciated by this guest. I was there for almost a week for training and very much enjoyed my stay. The breakfast downstairs was delicious and the staff very attentive and helpful. I enjoyed seeing people with their dogs walking around. I left my fido at home but might consider bringing him next time.

Thanks for writing and I appreciate your comments on the decor. The signs you mention were designed by the owner to explain and show some of the fun things to do in the summer/winter. We are a very different hotel in the winter when the Booce Ball courts and putting green are covered with snow. In the summer, the guests don't get to experience Northern Lights or the ice road in front of us on the Chena River. The signs are our attempt to show the hotel features year round.
We are glad the you enjoyed your stay and hope that you come back.

The good: bed is comfy, rooms aren't roomy but have what you need(fridge, microwave, iron, coffee, desk) Lobby areas feel lounge-y - warm, welcoming, big comfy furniture, cookies, water, coffee, ice cream(at night). If you're like me and like to sit somewhere besides your room, this place is nice for that. One corner even had card/game tables with comfy chairs. Outdoor furniture, decks nice too.

The bad: Although the decor is alaskan and fun (like the art, funky signs, etc)everything in the rooms is very dated - to be expected but then please please try harder with cleaning. Some of the furniture, appliances in the room were so full of dust and yuck that I spent an hour cleaning (yes) before we settled in.

The ugly. Really disappointed in the baby ducks in the box/cage in the lobby. Anyone who finds this amusing and entertaining is in need of new ideas for amusement and entertainment. Ugh. I'm not some PEta extremist that goes around spraying red paint on fur coats, It's just that this is a really sad unnatural environment, (light on them, music playing, strange human hands, faces, and voices in their space night and day.) If you're so desperate for gimmicks to bring in kids , hire a clown. End rant.

Thank you for your comments; it's good for us to get another perspective on our hotel. Regarding the rooms looking dated; we are going for the Gold Rush feeling so deliberately bought scuffed "shabby chic" furniture. Regarding the dust, it has been unusually dry and hot in Fairbanks this summer and when the rooms are not occupied for a couple of days, they do get dusty. We are trying our best to keep ahead of it and are sorry that the room did not meet the standard of cleanliness. Regarding the duck, we have a duck transition program where they are moved from the lobby to the greenhouse to outside. This summer, we have had more than the usual number of escape artist ducks and I believe that the day you were there, we were reorganizing the greenhouse duck accommodations. We do like them in the lobby to get them used to people. Thanks for your comments; they were helpful to us and we do try to give the best possible guest experience.

The hotel is nice, clean, and the people who work there are friendly and helpful. It isn't fancy, by any means, but it has some uniquely Alaskan charm and flavor that makes it a better pick than some of the fancier hotels in town.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the cabins if you stay there in the summer.

Thanks for your comments; we do strive for a sense of place. We want our guests to know that they are in Fairbanks. That is why the owner has his personal art collection hung in the hotel, why we have Fairbanks antiques scattered throughout the public areas and even why we have fringe on the furniture and drapes to evoke the gold rush era.
