“Wonderful Yurt”
Reviewed 25 May 2017 for a stay in March 2017

The location is not difficult to locate based on the address and driving direction provided by Colleen. She was very helpful and prompt in her reply to our enquiries. We saw the Aurora right in front and above the yurt during our brief stay all thanks to Colleen running over to alert us of the phenomenons which happened earlier than the usual expected hours. It was so incredible to witness it and what an experience. We love the yurt, it is functional and cozy for our party of three adults. The space was just nice for us. I will stay here again if I visit Fairbanks again.

“Cozy yurt to call home during your stay”

This place definitely exceeded way beyond our expectations! We stayed as a group of four for the long weekend, and it was such a cozy getaway from the city lights of Fairbanks. It's located up a long winding road in the forest and mountains, making the stay feel very adventurous. We felt very safe from the pitch black darkness and the below-freezing temperatures outside at night. It's also located in a prime spot a little outside Fairbanks for aurora viewing.

The space is perfect for a group of four, but I think any more might be a bit cramped. We utilized the kitchen and washer/dryer a lot during our stay, and they were very useful to have around. Water was nice and hot, and heating kept us warm all the time. The beds and couches were all very comfortable to sleep and lounge on, and the Alaskan decor is definitely a plus. The skylight is the highlight of the yurt, and it was fun staying up late at night watching for the aurora under this window. You can tell the yurt is well-maintained once you step foot in here.

Communication with Colleen was quick and easy, and we were able to check-in to the yurt smoothly. There was some confusion with the check-out times, but thank you Colleen for being so accommodating and welcoming. We also loved the frequent visits from your dog as well!

FYI, I highly recommend getting an all-wheel drive because there is a slightly steep hill leading up to the yurt. We rented a front-wheel drive sedan and it was difficult at times to get up the icy path.

These yurts were so welcoming and cozy from the arctic temperatures and darkness outside.

Location: Located not too far from town and not too high up to be out of the way but far enough to experience nature and away from city lights

Space: Very well furnished and maintained. The heater kept us super warm. Water pump can be noisy but it doesn't run when nobody uses it so at night its fine

Colleen was the cherry on top for our stay. She is very knowledgeable and helpful to make sure we have a great stay. We went when there was a big storm and she did a great job helping to make us comfortable while busy making sure everything was ok. She had slides that we used to slide down the driveway, lots of suggestions of things to do and try, and answered text and calls quickly.

I came with my parents and we all loved our stay! Highly recommended!

“Great place to stay with wonderful views and good possibility of Northern Lights in season.”

We had a great stay at the yurt. We stayed three nights. We saw the Northern Lights from the porch two of the three nights we stayed. One of those nights was spectacular. Out of town, so it was dark outside. Good for the Lights. There was no view of the mountains on the first day we were there, but the host immediately started clearing some trees and it was beautiful the second day.
Pros- very nice set up, we were able to wash clothes in the middle of our three week trip
Cons- very nice for two people. Yurt will sleep 6, but there is only seating for two- small loveseat in front of tv, table for two, two folding chairs on porch- but very nice for two people.
I attached two photos of the view (made with my telephoto zoom) and a photo of the northern lights from the porch. I did not post any photos of the interior because the photos in the listing were good and accurate.

We arrived at the yurt at 2:30 am. Still light outside up very good gravel roads.
It was great finished walls. Full kitchen and washer dryer . It was great for us three women. Two bedrooms and a loft. Never saw the owner or anyone else but that was fine. Everything was as promised

“Fabulous woodsy retrreat”

We stayed 4 nights in this yurt about 12 miles outside of Fairbanks. The yurt is beautiful and well-maintained. The location is forest! There is a second yurt next door and a house roof visible beyond the second yurt. Otherwise, the location is private and very quiet. One neighbor is a very large blonde dog who loved to come and visit, if the renter is a dog person. We are!
There are three bedrooms. We slept in the large bedroom with a queen size bed next to the bathroom. It was quiet and comfortable with room darkening blinds, if one needs them. My husband switched to the smaller downstairs bedroom with two twin beds when he thought he had a scratchy throat. He said that bed was comfy, too. The third bedroom is on the second level with a window to the stars. It has a ladder to access that area. We stored the ladder in the up position so we had more room to move around on the first level. The bathroom has a tub with a shower, sink, and best of all a stackable washer/dryer. We loved that perk.
The kitchen has nearly everything one would need to cook. If there were 6 persons, then one might need a few more dishes. Other renters have left kitchen ingredients like pasta, soy sauce, pancake syrup and more. All of the appliances work beautifully. We cooked most of our meals in the yurt, so that is important to us. There are plenty of big grocery stores in town. We primarily used the Fred Meyer. If you are not from Alaska and just want beer, the Brown Jug (Old Steese Hway) has a great selection.
The living room area has a sofa and a flat screen TV with Direct TV. We had good reception whenever we turned it on. My husband used the wifi and it worked just fine.
Outside there is a lovely deck with chairs. My husband sat out there for hours looking at the mountains and the spectacular skies with binoculars. We had no issues with mosquitos.
We loved the location up a few windy roads; some paved, some not and the yurt itself. If one is not interested in cookie cutter motels, this is the place for you.

“Perfect Inside and Out!”

Colleen's yurt is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for lodging outside of town, away from city lights for Aurora viewing, with a spectacular view, both day and night! It's a 15 minute drive from the airport on well marked/maintained roads. (I did rent an all wheel drive intermediate SUV.) This spotless, well-appointed and well-equipped yurt had everything I needed for my visit and is exactly as pictured. I slept in both the master bedroom and the loft (looking for the Aurora) and both were extremely comfortable. Colleen was very responsive to my questions when booking and helpful and accommodating during my visit. I hope to return in the future and highly recommend this beautiful yurt! As a bonus, I did get to see the Aurora from the deck, very convenient throughout the night. (I'm not including photos of the interior because I found it exactly as already pictured.)
