Reviewed 23 August 2009

Stayed at Le Jolie when visiting family who now live in Brooklyn area. We found the hotel excellent, small rooms (who can afford big in NY) but well fitted out. Staff friendly and helpful. OK, so its not in the best area but we never felt there was a problem walking the area at night and there are locals restaurants nearby.
Bedford Ave and subway is only a few blocks with it street party atmosphere, an interesting area with even more restaurants. Continental breakfast was good with 'just right' croisants, and that does not often happen.
One side of the hotel faces the overhead expressway, not sure how this would be, our room was on the other side.
We will stay again.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here, visiting our son in Williamsburg. This is a European-style hotel, with small, but very well-designed rooms. It is located smack up against the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, with half the rooms facing the highway and half with a view of Manhattan. We had the highway view. Although we had been somewhat concerned about road noise at night, we used ear plugs and it was fine. The photos on the hotel website are very respresentative of the hotel. We had very comfortable beds, a refrigerator, big screen HD tv mounted on the wall, and internet connections. There is also a computer in the lobby for guest's use. Breakfast is served in a smallish breakfast room, and consisted of cold and instant cereal, plenty of lovely muffins, danish, bagels, etc., fruit, juice, coffee. Although our room did not have a coffee maker (no room for it), fresh coffee was always available in the breakfast room. The hotel has about 14 free parking spaces (not all filled during our visit), but just across the street, underneath the Expressway, are dozens of free spaces. Parking is not a problem. Also, staff was very nice and helpful.

The location is very convenient to Manhattan. Just a 5 minute walk south is the Lorimer station for the L train that goes directly into the city. The area around the hotel is, shall we say, in transition. There is only one restaurant close by, (Balmonte, located directly behind the hotel, and it is a wonderful, Old New York Italian restaurant, and very reasonable). A few blocks away are plenty of other nice places to eat and enjoy a nice happy hour.

At a price of about $180 per night, including taxes, we thought the Le Jolie was a very good choice.

There was limited parking but we got there early so there wasn't a problem. Also, they let us check in early, but we got a room with a terrible view of the BQE highway since it's literally right up against it. The neighborhood is dumpy and deserted, but a 10 min walk to downtown Williamsburg where all the restaurants and shops are. If you are a hipster, it's perfect because Union Pool bar is right across the bridge underpass, and the bleakness is "cool", but not for professionals or people with kids. The breakfast was continental with pastries, cereal and coffee. The trains that go to midtown are very close, and it's only a 15 min ride, with trains all night.

Dear occasionaltravels,

Thank you for choosing Hotel Le Jolie. I'm glad that you had a great stay with us and were able to check-in earlier than expected. Our hotel offers rooms on both side of the building - our Elite rooms on the back side are more quiet and have a view of Manhattan skyline. We are looking forward to your next trip.

Hotel Le Jolie is a rare find; a little gem moments from the LES, easily accessible to Union Square and in the middle of trendy, funky and fun Williamsburg.

Despite other reviews complaining of noise, the hotel is right next to the BQE, I never heard traffic. It's a small but easy walk to Bedford Ave, the site of most shops and restaurants, or Metropolitan Ave. Being in Williamsburg allows you proximity to Manhattan, but you really don't ever have to leave the area for great bars, restaurants and shops. Added benefit - restaurants and bars here are less expensive than over the bridge in Manhattan.

As New Yorkers, we stayed here not to have to drive home after a night of partying. It was well worth the rate, $119, we got online. The rooms are small but have great bedding and lovely toiletries. Big screen TV and free WiFi are included as is a continental breakfast. We skipped the breakfast and went to Dante's on Roebling for brunch. I suggest you do that too if you like bangers and mac, waffles and fried chicken or the very innovative and delicious, root beer float French toast, etc. BYOB for mimosas.

The staff were helpful and attentive. If you're from out of town, you might think the immediate area is a little rough since old Williamsburg was the site of many factories that are now in the process of being converted into luxury condos. It's safe, people are walking around at all hours.

Overall, great value. The twin and king rooms are a better size than the queens. If you want a little leg room, go for one of those.

Our 26 year old son is moving to Brooklyn and we wanted to do some neighborhoods without him to get a feel. A new 7 story building stands out in sharp contrast to the mixed industrial residential neighborhood alongside the BQE. The area was friendlier then first appeared. We learned that unlike Manhattan cabs are not available in Brooklyn. So on the advice of the staff we left our car and took the subway. The stop was closer then he described and really easy. We never felt at risk.

The hotel was clean, efficiently run and the room was quiet. On the 3rd floor on the side away from the BQE no street noise or traffic penetrated the windows and curtains. I agree the room was small but I did not know that while I slept :-))

I disagree with the poster who complained about the staff. Mostly in their mid 20's, they were friendly and helpful. They gave us directions, maps, printed things from the web on the restaurant we chose and even walked into the foyer to review the large subway map on the wall. Interestingly the hanging map is the current official city subway map which is not up to date because the green line which services the hotel goes further then indicated. He knew and told us that.

Not least of all was the price - $129 per night for NYC!!!!

I will never stay at this hotel again even though I have family in the area. For the money I could stay in Manhattan. It was my impression that the staff thinks that since they are the only game in town it is not neccesary for them to make any effort.
