Note: All that is written below refers to the Mermaid Parade, which is a once-in-a-year event. We arrived about 1pm, and was already extremely packed (as was the subway, and with a baby it was a long 45 minutes to downtown Brooklyn - thats why I'm giving it 4 and not 5 stars). The parade was a blast – real people, enjoying themselves, having fun, communicating with each other. Nothing like the Manhattan urban alienation, more like a retro vibe to the good old, less techie days. Lots of small vendors selling fruits, ice-creams and drinks. The promenade by the sea is renovated and you can walk on the wooden planks with ease, baby-stroller included. Great fun!
