This was a really wonderful find. The food was eexceptional, the service was good and the atmosphere was wonderful.
The place has a very casual feel about it. It is not at all pretentious. We were sorry that we didn't live in the neighborhood. Maybe they would consider opening a place in Vero Beach, FL.

AOC has been right near us for several years, but it was only when my husband bought a Groupon that we decided to check it out. And we're so glad we did! The service was friendly and very courteous, and on a warm spring night we had a streetside seat next to the tall, open windows, so it felt almost like a sidewalk cafe. The atmosphere is charming, bistro-like, and very inviting. But the big appeal for us was the food. We shared mussels mariniere, a calamari appetizer, and a croustini salad. Everything was wonderful, perfectly-prepared and delicious. We can't wait to go back (even at "list price," our choices would still be very reasonable). The only let-down -- and not enough to alter our ratings -- was the beverage. After the waiter mentioned that our Groupon included wine or champagne, we chose the house white. We're no wine snobs [we stock up on Trader Joe's former '2-buck Chuck'] but both of us found the wine undrinkable and really weird-tasting. But when I tried to describe it, the phrase "furniture polish" kept springing to mind. So my recommendation -- definitely go to AOC, enjoy the delightful atmosphere, food, and service, but maybe order something other than the house white wine. That's our plan.

Cute bistro, a take on any Paris cafe. Quality salad and outstanding mussels; they prepare them with your choice of 3 different sauces: wine and shallots, roasted tomatoes and garlic, or mustard cream with bacon.

My girlfriend and I happened on to AOC Bistro while visiting Park Slope. I'm glad we did.
It's very nice bistro that seems concerned about producing authentic French Bistro food at a very reasonable price.

Food: there was a wide selection of modestly priced items. Everything we had was made with very fresh, high quality ingredients. One dish, a cheese tart, I would go out of my way to get.
The tart was a vert thin, buttery and extremely crisp pie covered with a thin layer of four high quality cheeses. It seemed as if the cheeses were dribbled on but the taste was intense.
Something else. A mushroom open faced sandwich tasted richly of mushrooms and the broccolli soup was silky without cream. They have a Mon to Thursday three course dinner with a glass of wine for $20. Saw some mussels piled high and coq au vin that looked good. As remarked by another, the bread was good but ordinary.

Service: We ate around 4:00 so it was not crowded. The waiters were properly attentive and freindly without being unctious. The entries did take time but I don't see how they could have been rushed.

Ambience: Long bar with bistro seating. Decorated in photos of stars from the 50's and 60's. There were two French women of a certain age dining who seemed right at home.

Wine: Don't know because we had mineral water but there was a long list of wines by the glass.

AOC does a very fine job of being what it intends to be, a neighborhood French bistro concerned about the food it serves.

It's not always easy to find the authentic French restaurant in New York, but this is definitely it. The owners and waiters are all French, the homey dishes are all delicious, country classics like boeuf bourguignon and coq au vin, and the preparation is divine. You'll love the service (incredibly friendly and personal) and the selection of imported French cheeses and wines. Great for lunch or dinner and especially for romantic occasions! Really nice outdoor seating for dinner on a warm summer night - with great people watching :)
