We have relatives who live in Brooklyn and whom we visit at least yearly, but don't have enough room for us. We have stayed at the ultra expensive Brooklyn Marriott in the past, which may be fancy, but can be rather impersonal. It was located way too far from our relatives which caused us to spend even more on cabs and car service. So, we looked around Brooklyn for alternatives and found a B & B that was nice enough, but to our dismay was now closed.
This year we discovered the INN ON SECOND and found out it was close to everything we needed. After speaking to Joe Dirks, one of the INN Keepers, we did not hesitate to book 4 nights...and we would stay there again in a heartbeat!
This is a great location. There are many charming touches to make you feel you are "home", not a 'cookie cutter' hotel. The only thing guests should know is that there are many steps. Keep in mind if you have mobility issues. We are in our 60's with hip and ankle problems, so we were glad we did not have to go up and down the steps more than once a day. This really was not a deal breaker for us as Joe quickly stepped in and helped carry our luggage for us. Anyway, walking up the steps was "free" exercise that worked off many a cream cheese and bagel sandwich--that are available around the corner on Smith Street!
We had the front room. We found it to be quiet and peaceful with occasional street noise that you'd expect in any neighborhood. It was a pleasure to walk the tree lined streets and see beautiful private gardens and still be so close to Manhattan. It was all we expected and more! We really enjoyed our stay.
