“Great Stay”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

Loved the location and price. For a budget hotel in the city I think it beats any that I have ever stayed in. Its close to the subway which is great and the hotel itself is very clean and the room was just great. The breakfast was good and there were plenty of options to choose from. The staff was also very helpful and spoke good English, a real gem in this city since most people in a similar title are immigrants with little English speaking ability. They always had a smile and were helpful when I had questions. Its close to Manhattan and trains that will get you there. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. I really had a fantastic stay. I think the secret has gotten out about this place because last time I tried to stay it was sold out.

Was a bit apprehensive at first but once we got there we were pleasantly surprised by how new and clean everything was. Shame we only spent a night here as we were flying back from Miami, a week before that we stayed in Manhattan for a lot more money and a poorer hotel.

Room Tip: Breakfast is included so you can save some money and time each morning.

PROS
Room was clean and relatively spacious I(we had 1 queen and 1 single bed for 2 of us)
Bathroom was clean and roomy
Air conditioning in the rooms
TV with cable access
Excellent, free wi-fi connection in the room
Staff were friendly and not over bearing (and the lobby smelt like coconut or something delicious everytime you walked in!)
Basic breakfast is included
Really close to the Subway lines
Food on 5th and 7th EXCELLENT
Good, relatively quiet location within walking distance to what you need

CONS
Walls were a little thin and we could hear the 'neighbours' tv, but nothing that is bothersome
The floor wasn't vacuumed before we checked in, or while we stayed for the 3 nights, so there were a few bits of rubbish on the floor (little coloured chocolate balls I think??) but again this wasn't that troublesome for us
The ice machine outside our door was a little noisy at times but it didn't bother us during the night. Maybe request a room away from the lift and ice machine as it can be a little noisier than other rooms I would imagine.

We'd definately stay here again, I would pick this Motel over staying in Manhattan any day.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the lifts and ice machine if you prefer to have a quiet stay. The breakfas...

I was a bit worried when i saw the neighbourhood, but in fact it seemed fine to walk around even at night. I was mostly out and about during my 2 night stay and the hotel suited my needs very well..... clean comfortable bed and bathroom, near a subway station, with the added plus of free parking! It is about 20 mins on the subway to central Manhattan.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. I even managed to work out how to work the waffle machine in the breakfast area! Breakfast was basic but adequate.
There was some noise in the morning, since my room was near reception and there was no door to cut off this area from the hallway. Presumably not a problem on higher floors.
Overall, much better value than the swanky places downtown... if you are not willing to pay for swank...

Room Tip: Above 1st floor to avoid noise from reception.

Visiting adult son in Brooklyn, chose Super 8 based on TA reviews, proximity to Park Slope, and price ... $175 for Saturday night on 9/11 weekend. In a non-descript depressing edge of Park Slope, but just two blocks from the action on 5th Avenue. Small (free) parking lot on property (though weekend on-street parking not a problem). We had requested an upper floor, which they acknowledged, but no such luck. First floor room, lots of street noise, so we slept with the HVAC on, which we usually prefer not to use. The good news was that this hotel appeared to have been renovated the night before. Everything was really clean, bed firm, bathroom pristine, great shower, free WiFi easy ... even the HVAC was relatively quiet. Continental breakfast what you would expect - cereal, yogurt, mediocre coffee, and that waffle batter that will last a thousand years. Front desk friendly, helpful. Nothing elegant about the place, but perfectly fine.

Room Tip: Request a room on the rear side, upper floor (sunny in the morning)

We chose Super 8 Brooklyn mainly because of its reasonable price (in New York terms) compared to other hotels in / around Manhattan. The next subway station is just one block away and it takes you about 15 minutes to get into downtown Manhattan.
You can choose of a variety of things (cereals, yogurts, bagels, croissants etc.) for breakfast. The breakfast room itself doesn't fit enough people, which means you'd need to wait sometimes to get a seat.
The rooms were super-clean and the stuff very helpful.

A good choice if you want to spend a few days in New York with easy access to public transport.

After a cruise return from England, we enjoyed a 3 night stay at this hotel. What a pleasant, helpful and friendly front desk that made every effort to guide us daily to our destinations. The bus and subway are very close as are several small grocery stores and restaurants. The new 5th Avenue is a delight to explore. Absolutely lovely, cozy and SPOTLESS rooms with great A/C, free WiFi, refrigerator, coffee maker & comfortable beds. The breakfast room was well stocked with something for everyone. A definite diamond find!
