“TRULY AT HOME!”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Last week my husband and I had our best-ever New York experience in a lovely corner of Brooklyn. The area, with gorgeous Prospect Park, Botanical Gardens and Brooklyn Museum of Art a stone's throw away, is stellar; it is also an up & coming neighborhood with trendy, bohemian-chic restaurants & boutiques & gourmet shops & wine cellars on 5th & 7th Avenues. It is also ultra safe and residential. Don is a wonderful host; he makes you feel more than welcome in his beautifully decorated bed & breakfast. And this B & B extraordinaire is full of suprises - Don's lovely granddaughter draws you a picture of your favorite pet; the superbly gifted young neighbor gives an impromptu cello recital, and on any given evening you may walk into a cocktail party with all sorts of interesting people present...not to mention mimosas on Sunday morning, and the original Art Deco bathroom circa 1938! Oh and did I say Midtown Manhattan is only 20 minutes away on the Q train? Yes, it is, and the subway stop is literally around the corner. And before I forget, as a housekeeper you get a talented young Italian artist! Don't miss out on this unique experience!

We booked 2 nights last weekend at this bed and breakfast for my wife, my two teenage kids, and me. We were visiting my stepdaughters in Park Slope and this B&B was 10 blocks from where they lived. This is not a hotel experience so you have to lower your expectations. However, for a B&B, it is terrific. The place is super clean, very comfortable (even has a piano in the living room that is available for guests to play) and the breakfasts are very fresh and healthy: croissants, pastries, juices, yummy smoothies made with greek yogurt and fresh fruit, coffee, and breads. The owner, Don, is very nice and makes an effort to get to know his guests and he will chat with you during breakfast. He is a former big-money hedge fund trader who got sick and tired of the Wall Street rat race and he has been operating this B&B for years. He obviously has a real passion for the property and cares very much about his guests and shows a genuine interest in who you are and what you are doing. I don't think there is any other place in the Park Slope area that you should consider other than this terrific B&B.

This is a must stay over. The atmosphere, the people and the food are wonderful, and, Prospect Park, that beautiful park, is directly across the street. Many attractions within and easy walking distance. Easy access to the subway system. Do it!

Room Tip: We always stay in the same room but we peeked at several others- they all look great.

We can't recommend At Home in Brooklyn enough! We stayed there for two weeks during our move from Europe to Brooklyn, and Don and his staff made us feel like family. From the first moment where our food delivery beat us to the B&B before we could make it from the airport and Don's daughter-in-law laid out full place settings for us to enjoy dinner after a long flight, to the drinks Don prepared for me when I came home from work, the whole experience felt like we were staying with our favorite relatives. As the other reviews have mentioned, the building is gorgeous--a sort of neo-gothic townhouse overlooking Prospect Park--and it is filled with beautiful art and great books, not to mention a grand piano in the parlor. Breakfast was prepared with care every morning with freshly cut fruit and home-baked croissants, etc. And by the way, they were very accommodating of our 2-year old. In short, we were sorry when the time came to move to our own apartment a block away. At least we still get to see Don and the gang from time to time!

Our experience of At Home in Brooklyn was so wonderful that I don't have quite enough superlatives in my vocabulary to write about it. I travelled from the UK with my husband and 3 children (2 adult and one 11 year old) and also my husband's mother to spend 5 nights over New Year in New York and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. So quite a large age range to accommodate, but they all absolutely loved staying here. I'd never stayed in Brooklyn before, but we will definitely be back, it has so much to offer fabulous bars, restaurants and shops just around the corner and Grand Army Plaza (a 2 minute walk) is on the 2/3 line so very convenient for getting into Manhattan. Also Prospect Park is across the road and the Museum and Library close by. The B&B itself is very, very comfortable and we all felt that we were staying with friends, breakfasts were generous and delicious and Don, Marco and the rest of the crew really could not have been more helpful or made us more welcome. They couldn't have done more to make this place live up to it's name - we were indeed very 'at home in Brooklyn'...

We were signed up for the Rock 'n' Roll Brooklyn 10K and this B&B was right next to Prospect park where the race was. Don and his crew definitely made us feel like we were at home. The house was beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the bed and pillows were heaven, especially after the race. Park Slope is a great area with lots of fabulous restaurants and shops on 5th and 7th. We will definitely be back someday!

Room Tip: The Garden Room was very spacious.

We had a great time staying at At Home In Brooklyn. Fantastic location across the street from Prospect Park, 2 blocks from the subway, and 5 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants on 7th Ave. in Park Slope. This B&B is packed with beautiful art, tons of books, and a piano in the parlor. Delicious continental breakfast and congenial host Don makes this a wonderful place to stay when visiting New York.
