First of all it is really small the door won't even open all the way when you trying to get in because of the bed. The bathroom is almost bigger than the actual room itself. Just not worth the money. People that work there couldn't give reviews about parking because they dont drive. If you work in an hotel you should know the area and where to possible park. Just a disappointment. Especially waking up the next morning with inflamed bed bug bites. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else.

Hello,

This customer made no mention of the issue to our staff during our stay and now comes out and says lies. We have 100% percent bed bug proof mattresses and beds with special covers and treatments. We have never had a single complaint.

Regards,

Management

I spent one night at the union hotel. Immediately upon pulling up we were taken aback at how small it was. I got out the car and tried to check in however the front desk woman was on a rather long call (taking a reservation) and didn't even acknowledge me. I walked out and sat in the car until I noticed she was off the phone at which point we were checked in. We went up to the room and boy was it tiny. We showered up and went out. We got back around 3am and the front doors were locked. I found that to be a bit odd as people should be able to freely come and go at a hotel. We had to wait for them to unlock the door to let us in. Aside from that the stay was decent. If you have a car you probably will have issues with parking as there really is none in the area.

Dear Cyn J,

Thank you for taking the time to complete our online survey regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We agree that our rooms are on the smaller side, but it is important to keep our low price point and NYC standards (smaller rooms on average than other cities), in mind. Parking can definitely be tough around here if you are not used to it, but usually, it is manageable to find parking. Just make sure if you have plans, to give yourself plenty of time in case it takes longer than you expected to find a spot.

On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for failing to exceed your expectations. Guests are absolutely allowed to enter and leave the hotel as they please during their stay. There is no reason why the front door should have been locked, even at 3 AM, and I will speak to the front desk and housekeeping staff about this. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you provided to make improvements to ensure we offer an exceptional experience for our guests in the future.

I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience.

Sincerely,

Jacob Shtromandel

I stay at hotels of all standards and prices all year round - a few weeks ago I was at $1,200-a-night place in LA, last week at a 5-star in Germany, so I think I know hotels pretty well, and this is an outstanding, one-off gem.
It's a stylish, hipster-ish place - which will be alienating to some - but with none of the grime and grot associated with Brooklyn hipster establishments. Far from it, the Union is sparking clean. Exceptional. Beautiful room, great bathroom. Huge, super-comfortable bed. Great zircon and heating. Good wifi (and free). Yes, the rooms are small, but not impossibly so. I've stayed in smaller ones in New York and London, and paid far more. A couple of reviewers pout out that a 275-pound man-jelly mountain wouldn't be able to get through the doors. I have a feeling that's what the owners were hoping for. There are plenty of chain motels with giant-sized in the area, although they cost a lot more.
The Union has zero 'facilities', so those who say it's a glorified hostel aren't wrong. But it just works. What you do get, and this is quite exceptional, is a free breakfast deal at a delightful, perfect diner 3 minutes' walk away. Far, far preferable to a depressing half-hearted hotel restaurant.
Oh, the area. Yes, those who don't quite get Brooklyn will most certainly not quite get Degraw between 3rd and 4th. The hotel is on an industrial street, opposite a builders' merchant and a seafood depot. But this is what this part of Brooklyn is like, and there are plenty of beautiful restaurants and stores minutes away on foot. Surprisingly, the street is quieter than many a British village I've stayed in. Odd, because the nearby 4th Ave is really noisy.
Last point - a few reviewers have complained about the staff being rude. Don't get this at all. They couldn't have been more helpful during our stay - especially Connor, the night guy.
The Union Hotel is a total find, we love it and will come again.

Me and my 7 year son stayed for a night and he liked the room because it was small. I managed because I'm with a kid and we had 1 luggage and 1 hand carry, the luggage actually blocks the door, so when we go out I had to move the luggage. The wifi has nice speed. Its clean, comfortable and location is great. They have free breakfast but you have to walk 2 blocks to get to the diner. Rates is reasonable considering the location.

I don't suggest this hotel if you are a big person or a couple and certainly not if you have a lot of luggages, but if you don't mind the space the hotel is okay.

Well located but rooms are so tiny you can barely move if you're big or have company. The breakfast was good but very mediocre hotel not worth the price. The breakfast is in a separate cafe and not in the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel like the plague and go only after all options have been exhausted

The location is great. It's about a 5 minute walk to Barclay's Center, the LIRR, and other main subway stations. Tons of things to do around the area, but quiet enough to get some sleep. The walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors if they are too loud We didn't have too many problems with it. The rooms are also fairly small, but there's a reason this is one of the cheapest hotels in the area. Design of the hotel is great and you won't feel like you are staying in a "____hole". Think of a modern hotel in a large European city.
