“A good place to stay with your family”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2012

My family and I very much enjoyed this hotel in Brooklyn. We got to take the subway from Manhattan, walk over the Pulaski Bridge, and through an interesting section of Brooklyn to our hotel. All very interesting for rural Vermonters! The walk from the subway station took about 10 minutes.
The hotel itself was great. High ceilings, interesting decor and knick-knacks throughout, two flat screen tv's and free wifi.
We didn't have any windows in our room, just some skylights, but the room itself was lovely.
Very friendly service.
We bought food in a local grocery store and used the room's kitchen to cook breakfast and prepare lunches. The kitchen was modern with new cookware. They even provided coffee.
I recommend this hotel for traveling families.
One thing that seemed odd to us was there was no recycling in the room. Just a garbage can.
Also: the bathroom was fine, bright, modern, big enough with one flaw: the toilet seat was made of flimsy plastic. Totally unexpected. Such a nice room and furnishings otherwise.

This is a great location and the rooms themselves are spacious well laid out and light and airy - a walk over the nearby bridge will get you to a subway which will take you to Grand Central in less than 8 minutes. However the sleep quality is awful with lorries in adjacent lots reversing with loud beeping noises from the early hours of the morning (these are not isolated incidents but occur regularly every few minutes during the night from about 3.45 in the morning - ear plugs or clubbing may help!)The fitness centre was being fitted as we visited. The so called loft suites may not be worth the money as you will be looking out over what looks suspiciously like a junkyard to see the cityscape of Manhattan and you can get much more breathtaking views from the Pulaski bridge as you walk along it.

Totally enjoyed my stay here. I was very comfortable and almost felt like I was at home. I like boutique hotels and this was one of the best that I've stayed in. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean. When visiting New York I will definitely make it a point to stay at the Box House Hotel.

What a find! if you are looking for super clean, very large, expansive rooms in the heart of chic greenpoint Brooklyn and only one train stop away from midtown Manhattan, you cannot find a better place to stay. Simply perfect in every way!

Found this by chance and was not quite sure what to expect.......just brilliant. On previous visits have stayed in Manhattan at some very good and some suspect establishments. The Box House is like a Tardis, even our taxi driver from JFK was a bit suspect but step through the inconspicuous front door and it is just fresh and clean with helpful staff to greet you which is always a bonus. The room itself was on the ground floor so no views etc but just so much space. Well equipped clean and very comfortable. Greenpoint is a world away from the "city" in terms of tourists but plenty of bars and restaurants and so quiet with a nice relaxed vibe.

Stay here as you are a short walk and one stop on the underground from 42 street but you can scuttle away from it all to find some authentic hosteleries where you won't need a second mortgage to pay for the evening.

Looking at hotels in NYC was daunting. Expensive. Uninspiring. Not the Box House Hotel. Brooklyn itself is worth the trip, and it's super close to everything. The train ride is fun, and for 30 bucks you can get a one week pass and go go go.
The rooms at the Box House Hotel were new, clean, and just as cute as they look in the pics. Man was that bed comfortable. I'm switching to memory foam.
The kitchen was great and had everything we needed. The neighbourhood was awesome. Great pubs, restaurants, grocers, pizza, liquor stores. Everything cheap and accessible.
The staff at the hotel were friendly, prompt, and professional.
Super safe area. What more can I say. Loved it.

We stayed in a one bedroom loft with terrace for 3 days in April 2012 and it made for a lovely base to explore the city. The room was clean and spacious and made for a very comfortable stay.
The walk accross the bridge to the subway offered some of the best views of Manhattan you could wish for.
All in all a lovely stay and i would greatly recomend the Box House Hotel
