A quaint little strip with some wonderful eateries, if you wanna get out of manhattan, hope on the subway and come across and get a taste of how the people in brooklyn live

“Montague is not a destination street...”
Reviewed 28 April 2012 via mobile

Unless you need a haircut at Supercuts (only see Jeffrey), need to curb a cupcake craving at Crumbs (free samples and an iced coffee, get a coffee card, it's a chain), need a coconut water (go to Key food, cheaper grocery), the R train, kneel in prayer, buy lip gloss (MAC), crave a croissant (best at Lassen & Hennig), need cat food, have an urge to buy eye glasses (lots of options for some odd reason), really need to buy an overpriced t shirt at Banana or a t shirt that will shrink a little to the right after one wash at Ann Taylor Loft, buy Avene facial products at that pharmacy no one knows the name of on the corner, or need to see what apartments you can't afford at one of the many real estate outlets....take a right at the Promenade, or a left on Hicks down to Atlantic, or a right on Clinton and a left on Atlantic to Smith, or head straight down Henry to DUMBO for more to see and do.

“Cozy Neighborhood”

Lots of cool stores and restuarants on Montague Street. Has a small town feel in NYC.

“I live near here, and it's a huge disappointment”
Reviewed 19 February 2010

About 30 years ago, Montague Street was a cool strip of many independent stores including some art galleries. Now, more than half of the commercial spaces are filled with chain stores. It's a big disappointment. It could be a great street, and I'm surprised it's not, since it's basically the main commercial street of Brooklyn Heights. It should attract people, too--it's famous! Bob Dylan sang about it in Tangled up in Blue, for instance. Its heyday is definitely over, though. Brooklyn Heights is worth a visit, but there's nothing worth visiting on Montague Street unless you're hungry (there are some old-time restaurants on the street, but nothing spectacular), thirsty (Starbucks, anyone?), or need to go grocery shopping. At this point it's almost purely utilitarian. If only it were like Smith Street!
