We were visiting Brooklyn and on a budget. This place was amazing. Food was unique and very tasty. Portions are very large. My wife and I shared one appetizer and one entree and couldn't even finish it all. Total cost $34. Each meal comes with bread and a salad. Most of the customers were Arab, and I am guessing Yemeni, which is a sign the place is authentic. Open late until 2am.

This restaurant has tasty food, in a completely underwhelming setting. It is sort of run like a cafeteria. So if you are looking for something different pick one of the other numerous restaurants in the area. However, if you want to try food from Yemen this is the place to do it.

Our party of 5 was barely seated when a complimentary bowl of soup and a giant flatbread appeared. We ordered an assortment of appetizers to make our own meza, which was delicious -- but just a tad on the heavy side. The foul came to the table bubbling hot in a cast-iron pot, but was made with a brown bean unlike the usual fava bean that characterizes this dish. Waiters were prompt, enthusiastic and definitely generous with replacing the bread as soon as we finished a loaf.

Definitely a place deserving a return visit, but next time we'll take care to order dishes lighter on carbohydrates.

The take-home bread was even better next day after 3 minutes on a toaster-oven.

You need to be told about this restaurant because it is not an obvious choice from the outside. A simple place with great food, the dishes (I assume) are typical since I have never eaten Yemen food before. The portions are enormous so go hungry or expect to share dishes. At lunchtime it is a lot of food. The bread is delicious. We ate lamb and chicken along with a vegetable appetizer and it was more than enough. Very tasty. Try the Yemen iced tea with a delicious spicy taste. Service was excellent and people are very friendly. A definite must if you are in Brooklyn Heights.

I love this place! Simple, delicious food. Lovely atmosphere, almost like being in someone's home. Wonderful fresh bread. Soup, salad and spicy sauce served to everyone prior to your main meal. Sweet tea available on tap. Very reasonably priced. Friendly, respectful crowd. My absolute favourite restaurant in NY and an instant tonic to any homesick feelings for the Gulf.
