This should have been 3.5 out of 5 instead of 4. We stayed here for 4 nights in May and we had gotten this hotel by chance on hotwire because it was the best we could afford. We were very wary because of all the terrible reviews that we had read but it really wasn't that terrible. The neighbourhood was definitely not the greatest. I would not go out after dark. We stayed on the top floor and our neighbours were kind of loud but they definitely didn't interfere with my sleep. It was very close to the subway that took us right downtown Manhattan. We drove to NYC from Canada and there were not a lot of parking spots available and I can honestly say that I was worried about our car because of the neighbourhood.
There is a complementary breakfast available in the early morning. It's not elaborate but there is a waffle iron, toaster, muffins, cereal, coffee, juice, milk, etc. We were pleasantly surprised.
If you are looking for a nice hotel, then I wouldn't come here but if you are looking to save a few bucks and are not overly picky or have high expectations then the Lexington really isn't that bad of a place.
