Don't feel I can really do this hotel much justice since we were in and out quickly but it was a beautiful hotel and we had no problems. A bit expensive for my family but friends & Fam rate helped a tiny bit...

We had stayed at a nearby hotel for the past two times in Brooklyn, but had spent much of the evenings in the lounge at the Marriott, so this year we decided to bite the bullet and spend the difference on staying there. We had booked senior discount, but noticed that the other rates were stipulated on what type of rooms they were ie city view etc. We were greeted by the valet staff and our luggage promptly taken care of, check in prompt and courteous, a ready room even though it was early in the day. We were so excited to see the city from our room, but upon opening the drapes, we were greeted with the view of rooms accross the way. Three walls of other rooms, including the wall of our side if you looked sideways out the window. We could see the sky by looking straight up. How disapointing. I had read somewhere that there was an observation deck that you could go up and see the skyline, so we asked at the desk about it, only to find out that it was a "concierge" perk and we could "pay" to go there, only to find out that it was "closed". On a friday night? Oh well, it would have been nice to go there have a nice glass of wine and enjoy the city, maybe next time. Good thing we were only staying one night, any more and I would have been extrememly disapointed with the money we spent. Now that we have spent more time in Brooklyn, we know our options and will research for the best location and price.

Room Tip: If you have never been to New York, pay the extra bucks for the better view rooms.

I did not stay at this hotel; guests of mine did for our wedding, but I interacted with concierge and check-in staff and spent some time in a guest room.

First, I would be loyal to Brooklyn Bridge Marriott based on their wedding block rate. The other hotels that we contacted in the area gave us quotes that were… pathetic. That's probably the most favorable adjective I can use. In contrast, BBM gave our guests a very good rate, and did so promptly. It was rather expensive to extend some guests outside of the date range for the block, but I suppose that was a function of demand.

We also had a good experience with the check-in and concierge staff when we went to drop off welcome bags. There were a number of guests waiting for service when we arrived, and the staff seemed to work through requests quickly and were therefore quick to get to us and receive the bags for delivery. (No guests had issues with receiving the wrong bag or not getting a bag.)

As others have written, the rooms seem spacious by Manhattan standards. I was in a relative's room for a while and was impressed. I cannot speak to evening noise (although highly doubtful) or mattress quality, but again, at least no complaints.

Marriott has a car rental company located in its parking garage. This is generally a good thing, but signage is poor, and it would be better if there was some larger or more visible signage in the lower lobby area.

Lastly, my mother swears that she saw Dennis Rodman at the bar. Some may want to deduct points based on this and some may wants to add points; I am happy enough to give them five stars as it is, so this last point is purely informational.

We booked an evening affair for 200 people. The food and service were excellent. The staff at the hotel could not be better for the hotel manager, Sam, the banquet managers Robert and Susan and the event planner, Sara. I am stilling getting kudos from the guests a month later. They listened and developed a great successful plan. The hotel rooms were wonderful and prices were good for the rooms and the dinner.

Room Tip: The higher rooms have wonderful views

Each floor of the hotel is huge with two ways to get to the elevators which can be confusing until you get used to it.
We found the rooms to be large (huge compared to Manhattan), clean and quiet. Housekeeping was happy to oblige with extra towels or toiletries.
The position was great for us as we could just walk across the bridge to Manhattan,
Central Park and all the places of interest. You could also get a ferry from the base of the bridge (Dumbo) if you did not want to walk.
There are restaurants, shops, everything that you could possibly want within easy walking distance.
It is much cheaper and quicker to get a cab from LAX to here than to go to Manhattan as a good cab driver knows how to avoid the peak period traffic. In Manhattan it is impossible to avoid heavy traffic.

from now on I 'll make a distinction between business and personal travel
personal travel

part of a package deal for the NY Marathon we stayed here from 1 to 5 November
+
convenient location, 4 minutes from 3 metro's
10 minute walk from brooklyn bridge
in the 'cool' brooklyn area
pool and sauna
in brooklyn heights and smith street with nice resto's

-
expensive (297 USD per night for a double, excluding wi fi in the room, drinks in the mini bar or breakfast)
pool and health center(massage!) closed at 5PM, which is a pity after a marathon
Bar closes at midnight (maybe usual in the us)
door key did not work properly and had to go down 3 times to change the key, in the end security had to open it
only free wifi in the lobby
room was twice cleaned between 3 and 5PM, pretty late

We were attending a weekend wedding in Brooklyn at the same time that the NYC Marathon was scheduled. Even with a friends and family rate, the two night stay was fairly expensive. Maybe the race raised the price. The hotel, though, was very modern and had all the amenities like a business center and gym/pool combo. Its restaurant was a little pricey with breakfast for 4 at $100.
The location was ideal with the subway right there making for an easy trip to the airport. Also don't expect a great view from your room.

I must say that the staff was excellent with everyone being very helpful and very courteous. They approached us to assist; we didn't have to seek them out.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the river.
