It's worth 15-20 minutes of your time to check out Big Ditch Park. Firstly to admire the innovation of the town's population - this area could so easily have been left as a dumping ground - and secondly to appreciate the town's history. The ditch is where Main Street stood until it was washed away by a massive flood (you can see photos in the nearby Yankie coffee shop).
The park has a nice shady walk along a 2-3 block stretch and two bridges to Hudson St (Route 90). We found a couple of locals having a chat along the way - and a man asleep on a bench. We did not find the park to be dangerous at all - and saw no evidence of illegal activity. But, like any park, I wouldn't hang out there at night.
