“Phenomenal Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Lodge while attending a wedding here this June. The accommodations were great (no TV though, which didn't pose a problem for us)! Both mornings we saw deer just outside our windows and listened to the birdsong all through the day. The food (breakfast is included, other meals available) was unbelievably good -- we are vegan and they fixed us very tasty and hearty dishes that were in no way 'second class' to what they served the other members of our party. We will definitely stay here again!
The only cautions I would have are two: because the Lodge is located at the end of a dirt road the address didn't show up on my GPS, so check out the very good map and directions on the Lodge's website; and the dirt road might be a little dicey in the rainy season, so make sure you check out the car washes in Silver City itself.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are in the main lodge building, but there are others in outlying casitas for more...

Travelin' Jack and I have stayed in many pet-friendly hotels, motels, resorts, lodges and B&Bs, but this one might just take TOP PAW rank! Not only is it amazingly wonderful for people....it's the 'cat's meow and the dog's bark' for traveling pets. Why? What makes it unique? Many things. Starting with the fact that this lovely historic lodge is nestled in a Mecca of a setting. Tucked in a mountain/country setting with everything from resident horses to fabulous hiking trails...to art work scattered throughout the setting both indoors and out (much of it dedicated to animals), that is JUST the beginning. The rooms are lovely. Decor is simple but elegant at the same time. The rooms are immaculately kept, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms functional and roomy, and lovely sitting areas outside to enjoy the scenery and the fresh pine smells. We kept our 4 bedroom windows open to enjoy the cool mountain nights and the sounds of the country. Awaking to a rooster is a not-common-anymore wonderful alarm clock. The breakfasts were deliciously prepared with options to sit indoors or outside on the lovely wrap-around porch. Perfect for folks traveling with their pets. The owners....Linda especially....are very warm, accommodating and friendly. This is a truly relaxing space, where you can completely leave your cares behind and revel in the country/mountain setting. Hiking trails take you on beautiful walks around natural and artistically created spaces to enjoy. The interior of the lodge is filled with beautiful local art as well and doubles as an amazing and eclectic art gallery, with something for everyone there. On the Pet Friendly side: All these wonderful things apply for Fido too. With the addition of several other Top Paw amenities. Here's what Travelin' Jack loved about Bear Mtn Lodge. 1) Pet treats on a plate for him with the human's morning coffee. 2) Myra's Retreat offers great wooden floored suites with a warm, welcoming shared sitting area and a nice porch to take in the morning/evening air. 3) Friendly hosts including their two dogs and resident horses. 4) GREAT hiking trails around the property. 5) No size or number restriction on visiting pets 6) Reasonable pet rate...especially considering the over-the-top accommodations for both the people and the pet 7) Pet friendly throughout the public lodge area. We could wander the art gallery, the porches and the overall setting together in comfort. I give this mountain resort High Praises and Travelin' Jack gives Bear Mountain Lodge his prestigious 5-PAW rating! We will be back! Maybe a wintertime getaway next time!

Room Tip: Myra's Retreat is the Pet-Friendly unit. Make sure to reserve your pet friendly room when making...

Will continue to come back! Perfect retreat with perfect hosts. The food has gotten even better! new chef-
The rooms still continue to amaze me, new art in them each year I return.

I look forward to exploring the hiking trails each year and roaming around Ghost towns.

Would highly recommend staying here

My husband and I just spent two wonderful nights at the Bear Mountain Lodge. The Lodge is charming and immaculate. The site--just outside Silver City--is beautiful. We had a lovely room on the second floor, with widows on two sides and a private balcony, where we drank a glass of wine and watched a million stars come out. We took two short hikes on the property and enjoyed the delicious breakfasts. The staff was friendly and professional, and we very much enjoyed the artwork. We really could not have been happier, and look forward to our next visit.

We have been here several times, and always hate to leave. Between the wonderful room, great staff, and on-site hiking, it is one of the nicest places to relax. And the art (it functions as a gallery) doesn't hurt!

Owners Linda and John and manager Jeff run a tight ship at this out-of-the-way B&B about 2.5 miles from Hwy 180 and Silver City center. Nicely appointed rooms with views of mountains and adjoining Gila Nat'l Forrest make the lodge a resort unto itself. Artwork abounds (all for sale) as the first floor acts as a self contained gallery. The lodge setting makes for easy meeting and conversing with staff and other guests and is a welcoming experience when traveling solo.

My husband and I recently stayed here for a long birthday weekend away from ABQ. I had wanted a nice relaxing place out in the beauty of nature, and that's what we got. The inn is absolutely charming, as are the owners Linda and Jeff. We were very late checking in and Linda was sweet enough to accommodate our rushed schedule getting into town and then a dash to the Curious Kumquat. She just left the keys for us and we met her the next day at breakfast (which is out of this world--homemade everything.) We enjoyed ours out on the beautiful porch watching the hummingbirds swoop into the feeders. We were in the Mimbres room, very comfortable with a king bed, feather comforter, nice pillows and a huge bathroom. There was also a semi-private porch out back to sit and enjoy the sunshine, the birds, and the art garden that surrounds the property. If you love art, this place is for you. The whole place is a gallery--every square inch is covered with local art that's for sale. I particularly liked the art of the owner (Linda). We also visited her new gallery in town (Ursa Minor) which is very worth seeing. There are hiking trails on the property as well--easily accessed by a short walk from the lodge. It's all very casual down there, you come and go as you please and there's not much staff around except in the mornings. But we always had Linda's cell # if we needed anything. There are Aveda products in the bathroom, as well as local goodies too. It's all done very well. The only suggestions I would have are minor: decaf coffee for the tortured souls not allowed to drink caffeine, and side tables in all the bathrooms. We had one in the Mimbres, but I noticed that none of the other rooms had them. And with only a pedestal sink, there's really nowhere to put all your toiletries, etc. Anyway, we can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor of the lodge have a semi-private porch out back.
