“A comfortable stay in a natural setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2005

Encouraged by other TripAdvisor.com reviews, we looked forward to our stay here, and were not disappointed. The rooms are large, nicely appointed, and meticulously maintained.

The lodge itself, and its general atmosphere, makes one feel more like a family guest than a paying customer. The right mix of good organization and informality is provided by the staff.

Although there were no televisions, you are not completely cut off, as there is a free high speed intenet connection to the PC in the lounge area. There is a good library of nature-related books, and the small gift shop offers interesting choices for both adults and children.

We took the longest of the trails on the property, which was not too daunting, and which provided some scenic views, and brought us close to nature.

This was our first visit to Silver City, and we would describe it as a work in progress. There are a couple of decent restaurants, and an emerginng arts & crafts scene. It seems to be achieving a critical mass for good historical preservation. If so, this would make a great destination for several days, combining the Bear Mountain Lodge, Silver City, and the many surrounding natural attractions.

10 of us Tucson Pathfinders spent the July 4th weekend of 2004 at the Nature Conservancy's BML in Silver City. It was a very nice and enjoyable experience. The staff was very helpful and attentive, the included breakfasts were excellent and plentiful, and the reasonably priced dinner that we ate there was also very good. And there were always fresh-baked pastries, coffee, tea, and cold sodas set out during the day.

The Saturday all-day hike guided by lodge naturalist Mike to some of the NC preserves in the area was extremely fun and educational. Along the Gila River, we saw deer, huge jack rabbits, evidence of beavers, a Western yellow-billed cuckoo, a white-faced ibis, herons, bear and mountain lion tracks, hummers, phoebes, a nestling common black hawk, adult black hawks, and much more.

Mora and her lodge staff are very competent and professional and make BML one of the most enchanting and comfortable nature-oriented, lodge-type B&B's in the United States. It is a very tastefully done luxury facility that is not exactly cheap, but worth every penny!

The Bear Mountain Lodge offered a much needed respite from the "real world." Wonderful hiking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. Calm and serene, yet close to restaurants and shopping. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The attention to detail was evident at every turn. Good food, ambiance, gift shop, library. Highly recommended for nature lovers.

Bear Mountain Lodge staff is well-trained and very helpful, calm
describes the atmosphere. From the reservation over the phone to the
greeting on arrival and all else in between--wonderful. We stayed only
one night but the room (Gila) was lovely, tasteful decor, handmade
furniture, the grounds perfect for that hike before dinner. We sat on
the patio watching the birds at play.
Dinner was a bargain, the Chef worked hard to prepare our meal, homecooking like Mom, only if Mom was a good cook. Fresh pumpkin pie (perfect) on a Fall day. Compliments to the Chef. She would pack you a picnic lunch as well, and her French toast at breakfast was a treat.
The guests were interesting, and we conversed long after dinner. Thank you all at this lovely lodge.
Well done. We would return. Highly Recommend this place. Oh and did I
add I could e-mail my daughter, browse the library, peruse the gift
shop and smile when the young man on the ATV came driving up the gravel
road with a very large red dog (Golden Retriever type) at the wheel. My
camera was not quick enough but I have that sight forever in my minds
eye. Delight!
