“Good Bargain, Decent motel”
Reviewed 23 December 2007

The Vista Motel is an older motel but quite clean and within 1/4 mile of West Glacier gate. We checked several motels and found them to be built around the same time for more $$ per night. We hike most of the day and enjoyed the clean outdoor pool. The only pool in the area. The view is lovely and what we really liked was the help and visiting with the other guests. There is an outdoor covered picnic table with a great view and a game room with puzzles. The motel is surrounded by woods and next door to a raft guide business--which we used (very good). It's old but something about this place puts people at ease. Cell reception is hit or miss for the entire area. New owner has updated furnishings. Good deal.

Fall asleep to the lullaby of passing trains and traffic. Awake to the sounds of rippling water... of the person showering in the room next door.

Wood panelling decor. Peeling paint in the shower area. But generally clean floor and bed. No phone. No television. No clock radio. Very thin wooden door which does not block out sound. Poor parking lot arrangement but adequate parking for passenger cars.

Under new ownership. Website pricing & email address are incorrect as of date of my stay in early September 2007.

Friendly receptionist - no problems at check-in. Offered coffee/hot chocolate.

A very nice simple motel one minute from Glacier National Park. We used this as our stepping off place in the West side of the park. Literally one or two minutes from the ranger station. Clean, quiet place, family oriented, with a common reading room complete with puzzles and games. While we were there, a huge puzzle was in progress... you were welcome to add a piece here and there.

Complimentary coffee in the mornings in the office, clean rooms, and really friendly staff made this a great place to stay.

We stayed at this hotel and were very disappointed. What stood out the most is that it doesn't appear that they have spent a dime updating the place since it opened at least 50 years ago. The furniture consisted of old beds with fabric or carpet on the headboards, 3 mismatched vinyl chairs and old wood dressers. The shower was painted inside (yes, painted) and extremely small.

Also, it is located across the street from the traintracks and they run all day and night, very loud.

The place looked great on their website, but the rooms were surprisingly 1940s economy. The restroom and shower was very small, and the window tilted out over the sink. There was no air conditioner, and the heat was an electric wall heater. Aside from that, the large window looked out at an unobstructed view of the the mountains of Glacier National Park, as the motel is elevated above the highway. The room was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We were given one of the only rooms to have a TV, and was told that atmospherics keeps it from getting more than one station, and that only intermittently. Ours had good reception for one hour before the signal faded out.
.
Despite the room's shortcomings, the place is somehow charming due to the view from the window. It's a good place to economize for one night.
Would I go back? Absolutely ... but for just one night as I don't like to double back on my travels.

By the way, if you don't get to see any bears in Glacier, you can still visit the commercial "Great Bear Adventure" down the road.

I booked this motel in Feb. 2006 after checking out others in Glacier National Park. We wanted to stay near W. Glacier as we were on our way to Idaho. I can say I am glad we arrived there at the end of our day because it was very depressing. It is an old place and everything in the place is old. The shower(old metal) had a trickle of water and it was terrible. Our pillows were wrapped in plastic, the tv had one channel, no phone and I'm glad we just spent one night. After talking to others I found that everything else was booked so they had no choice. You can't get your money back because of their 48 hr. policy. I can say this was the worst place of our 10 day stay.

Bad, bad, bad. Stay away from this hotel.
Plumbing didn't work.
Shower drain blocked all the time.
Shower head - well I could smell water coming out but I couldn't find any.
Windows would not open.
Bed looked as if it had already been slept in.
The only plus is it's location straight opposite the park entrance.
My advice - don't stay here.
