“Nice landscaping but...”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

This KOA has a very welcoming entrance and is nicely landscaped around the office area. the campground really packs people in tightly though and the area where we were located was not well thought out in that in order to access one of the two communal bathroom/shower sites you either had to cut through your neighbors camp site or take a long looping walk to get to them. The back-in sites however are very narrow and with the cabins directly adjacent to the back-in site pad it was very difficult to back even our small trailer into the site.

We also ran into a situation where we were suddenly kicked out of our campsite at 8pm at night and had to move everything to an adjacent site because the KOA staff placed us in the wrong site at check-in and the family who had specifically requested the site we were occupying had booked it for 5 nights (versus our 2 nights) did not want to have move again once they were situated. We asked if we could at least wait until the morning to move but KOA was insistent that we move immediately because the other family was staying for 5 nights and we were only staying for 2 nights (yes they actually did tell me that this was the determining factor).

After breaking everything down, moving next door and setting everything back up again with daylight in short supply and soaked with sweat, I asked to speak with the manager about the screw up and expected KOA to at least comp me a night due to their mistake and the inconvenience they caused. No dice. I was offered a free breakfast or a 15% discount. Seriously.

Other than this debacle, the campground was nice although it was very crowded. Using the bathroom/shower in the morning was like being back at the camp I attended in my youth where everyone was showering and using the bathroom in the morning and it was humid, stinky, sweaty, etc. An additional bathroom/shower room facility (really 2 given the size of the campground) are greatly needed.

I would echo the sentiments of some of the others that kids are running around everywhere and take over the pool/hot tub areas. This didn't bother me because I never use these when I travel.

My advice to anyone visiting Glacier would be to stay in a hotel unless you have to camp (trailer) or have a burning desire to go back to your days as a camper at summer camp.

The camp ground was clean, and the area was very nice. We liked how close it was to the West Glacier entrance. What we had trouble with and we did say something to the staff. The first night we stayed we wanted to use the hot tubs after a long day of driving and hiking, but when we got to them they were full of children. This was between 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm, we figured the children would be out of the hot tubs by then. We decided to just get in them in hopes of the parents seeing there were adults who wanted to use the hot tubs,( the children were running from the pool to the hot tubs to get warm), and would take the children out, that didn't happen, in fact the parents left the area, I guess they thought we would watch their children. After about 10 mins we gave up and left. While on our way out we met other adults who wanted to use the hot tubs, we told them we talked to the staff and they were going to take care of the problem. We also learned children were not suppose to be in the hot tubs after 8:00 pm and no one under a certain age was suppose to be in them. While we were trying to use them there was a 2 year old getting in the tub.
The next night again after a long day of driving and hiking Glacier we figured we would try again, We checked after 8:00 pm and again the hot tubs were full of children running back and forth between the pool and hot tubs to get warm. We decided it to not use them, we had already went to the staff and it seemed as nothing was done. I recommend the park for good camping but if you want to use the pool or hot tubs, which you paid to use, forget it.

This was our first experience staying at a KOA, which I guess I've always thought negatively of and never even realized offered accommodations other than tent and RV sites. We typically stay in lodges or cabins when 'camping' as a family, but everything inside the park was booked or way out of our price range when planning our trip 9-months in advance.
We saw that the West Glacier KOA offered camping cabins and booked one for a two night stay as part of our trip to Glacier. The place is very well kept and clean and we really enjoyed the cabin that we stayed in. The pool and playground were great for the kids. With a 6 year-old, a 3 year-old, and a 4 month-old baby it was just the right mix of 'roughing it' (cooking outside, sitting around the fire each night) and comfort (beds, heater for cold mornings, electricity) to suit our needs and we'd definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Cabins 13-17 seemed like they were the most private.

We typically stay at the Whitefish KOA when in this area, however we opted for the West Glacier KOA for a change this year. While it is beautifully kept up, compared to the whitefish KOA, it really lacked some things we like. We rented a 'super site', these sites have no trees and face east/west so the sun is on top of you from dawn till dusk. If you enjoy sitting in side your big airconditioned RV then this is for you. We however like to be outside, and a bit of shade would have be a nice. Also the lack of tress = lack of privacy. The playground, pool, laundry, stores, ect all great ammenities I can't complain about. The drive into Kalispell is about 40min so that can get to be a bit much also. We were in sites 152 and 151, which are beside the group camp and horse shoe pits, and furthest from pool playground and restaurant. Also, beware if you are tenting, those sites are the farthest from washroom facilities.

We had a combination family reunion and entertaining friends from Nebraska. We decided after looking at the pictures of West Glacier KOA cabins, we would like to stay there for our 3 days. The pictures are wonderful but not actuate. First, the floor plans are very hard to see on line. We rented two Deluxe cabins, the one with the fancy deck, and that is ALL it has going for it.
Our cabin, at least, had a two burner stove while the fancy deck cabin did NOT have any way to cook inside. The refrigerators were small but fine, if you have a cooler with lots of ice or dry ice. Our bathroom door handle plate was broken, no screws anywhere. The tub handle was broken and you had to play with it all the time to keep from getting burnt. You had to ask for clean bath towels and the gal was NOT happy with us asking for them (we brought our own swim towels.) They acted as though it was an issue. We figured with the price we paid per couple we should have gotten them everyday. There was only one kitchen towel and dish cloth in each kitchen. The kitchen utensils were super cheap. They did give you 1 complimentary coffee pod, good thing we brought some with us. There were salt and pepper shakers in the cabinet, the salt was empty. There were not enough spoons for 8. We brought our own. You could see light between the cabinet and wall in the bedroom.

The front desk staff acted like they were being put upon when being asked for information, as in faxing items or directions.

The young lady that was working in the ice cream parlor on Saturday night was very nice.

Room Tip: Be sure you understand that you are paying A LOT for very little.

Although the most expensive campground we ever stayed in, it was obvious the money was being put back into the campground. It was close enough to Glacier National Park yet secluded enough to not be in a crowd. Actually, we were extremely impressed with this place. Staff empowered to make instant decisions and provided great customer service. We'd actually go back !

We just came back from a weeks stay at this KOA campground. After a very long drive it was wonderful to pull into such a nice looking place! It was our first visit to Glacier. The campground is up and away from the main road, nice and quiet. We were in the pool everyday. Beautiful scenery, pretty clean facilities. Nice staff. Ice cream shoppe a little overpriced but yummy. We stayed up 2 nights to see the Northern Lights as advised by the camp cook. But they were not to be found which was a little disappointing. My only gripe was that we could not access the WiFi from our spot or in the laundry room (I at least expected there to be service provided in there) I'm not sure if the spot we had was supposed to or not since we changed our reservation over the phone from a cabin to RV site, and did not know what we were being given.... So I didnt complain about it, however it was a little frustrating to not have access all week without having to go sit outside the shop. Which I noticed many people doing so I am assuming this was not just our problem. I would book a spot with a little more space next time - I felt way too close to our neighbors, which for the high price seemed a little too close, especially since we had smokers next door which meant we had to keep our windows closed half the night. But all in all great location - minutes from the entrance to the park, and the best week of our lives!!! Visit Glacier National Park!!! I would definitly stay here again, but try and book a different site in the campground. FYI dont be tempted to buy gas at West Glacier or at the Conoco on the main road. Drive a few miles back to Coram for a way cheaper price.
