“A top-level B&B experience”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

This Western lodge has an excellent, peaceful location, with a nice view, and the decor is very interesting in a thematic way; very consistent with the intended ambiance. The Grand room that we (2 people) stayed in was very spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. We had a great stay for 3 nights. The dinners that accompany the room are truly gourmet experiences, with inventive appetizers, main courses, and desserts. We had delicious, original dishes that we never experienced anywhere else. Chef Ryan is an insightful practitioner with many novel ideas. This is something that you would not expect in such a setting. The breakfasts are self-serve and mainly carb-rich. However, one can amplify them as one wishes by getting some special items at a local market in Hungry Horse. Our Grand room had a mini-frig that helped with this aspect. Fresh fruits, such as cherries and strawberries, were provided. The proprietor and staff really aimed to please. For example, they continually gave my wife ground decaf coffee to use with the in-room coffee-maker, since the standard coffee provided in the dining area had caffeine. They also catered to special dining needs like allergies and vegetarianism. Importantly, it was possible to closely control the climate in the room to our liking. Yes, there are trains that pass a railroad crossing nearby and toot their horns, even in the middle of the night, but we did not find this to be a problem with sleeping soundly, given that we kept the window and door closed.

Room Tip: There are 2 Grand rooms in the main house, on the east and west sides of the lower level. The one on...

I had the privilege of staying at the Great Bear Inn during my vacation to Glacier National Park. The staff was very attentive and welcoming upon my arrival. It was then I realized this place was more than just another “Bed and Breakfast.” It felt like a second home! The rooms were spacious and had all the modern conveniences that I am accustomed to. I enjoyed free Wi-Fi, cable TV, mini-refrigerator, and a coffee maker in my room. The beds were large, plush, and very comfortable. Everything was arranged and maintained with meticulous detail. The Native American décor and furnishings were beautiful. Breakfast was provided every morning that consisted of cereal, bagels, muffins, fruit, yogurt, milk, coffee, and juice. Dinner was prepared every evening by a professional chef. During this time, mouthwatering aromas would waft throughout the house. I spent a lot of time sitting by the kitchen just taking it all in! Dinner consisted of an appetizer, main course, and dessert. I must say that this was some of the finest food I have ever eaten. I have never been so spoiled in my life! I also enjoyed the interesting conversations we had during dinner as the staff dined and mingled with guests. After dinner we played billiards, admired the breathtaking views on the deck, or lounged around outside with the wonderfully behaved dogs on the beautiful lawn. I would highly recommend the Great Bear Inn to anybody who wishes to visit Glacier National Park.

We were originally booked for only one night. After the first night we could not resist staying a second night. Everything was perfect. The minute we were met at the door, it felt like we were with friends we had known forever. The care from all of the staff was beyond outstanding. If we even mentioned anything we might like, it was done. The food was absolutely the best and we had just come from some very famous restaurants in Las Vegas. We were happier at the Great Bear Inn than we were at any of our accommodations the week in Las Vegas. The view from our room was breathtaking, along with being very romantic (candles included)! It was so peaceful and relaxing. Just exactly what was needed. An extra bonus for us were all the four legged friends we made as well. We could not have dreamed of a better two night stay anywhere. We can't wait to go back and visit "our new found family".

Our two night stay was very very relaxing. We were close to Glacier Park so it was very convenient to visit and a short drive to Whitefish and to the ski area. The Inn is off the road so once back in for the evening you will want to have dinner there. The food was excellent prepared by the chef on premise. We enjoyed a light
continental breakfast in the morning and looked forward to a relaxing late afternoon at the Inn and then enjoying dinner.

My wife and I needed some time together and away from the house and work. Our weekend at the Great Bear Inn was more than we had hoped for! The personal care from the staff was outstanding, and the food....what can I say other than 'the best ever!' The accommodations lacked absolutely nothing. The fireplace in the bedroom was an intimate touch. I can't rate Susan and the rest of our new friends high enough, and we are looking forward to many return visits. Thank you all!!!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms available!!!!

Brought the family for a 7 day vacation and we had a blast.Nestled between the pines it was easy to forget the hustle and bustle of city life. The staff is awesome and accommodating and we were made to feel at home day in and day out. We are excited to have found this place and have already begun our plans for a return in the near future. We stayed in one of the suites and were thrilled by how spacious it was and to have access to a patio area outside the room was another plus. The food was phenomenal and Chef Ryan wooed us with his culinary prowess. I have eaten many places around the world and Ryan's kitchen is top notch. The Great Bear Inn's proximity to Glacier Park made the exploration of park all the more inviting. To return to the lodge to a wonderful hot meal after a day of exploration was worth its weight in gold. Overall we had a great experience and would highly recommend The Great Bear Inn to anyone and everyone who wants the real Montana experience. We can't wait to visit The Great Bear Inn again. To Susan, Ryan, Mary and the crew thank you for such a great vacation!!!
