Wild Alaska Inn at Glacier Bay
Ranked #3 of 8 Gustavus B&B and Inns
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We were met at the airport by our hosts and taken to Wild Alaska Inn for the start of a most memorable stay. Our rooms were spacious and very clean and comfortable. In the upstairs room we shared a large spotless bathroom which was just a few steps from our door. Jonash and Ella were very accommodating hosts who would help with transport when they could, advice on what to do and places to eat. On two evenings Joansh cooked a dinner for us (extra cost) that was better than many Alaskan restaurants we visited. It was so good to sit at a table with people from 5 different countries. Jonash also owns a boat for whale watching and fishing if you want a handy charter. While the whales were slow, to Jonash's credit, he kept trying to find them for us for much longer than the agreed time.
As hosts they are very open and willing to share the "Alaskan life" stories which really helped us to understand our surroundings, the services and the thinking of the people. Our 3 nights at Wild Alaska was more than a stay, it was a wonderful experience.

My husband and I stayed at Wild Alaska in June and we loved it. Jonash and Ella were wonderful hosts, treated us like family, and shared their experiences of living in Alaska, and in Gustavus in particular. We went to Glacier Bay, borrowed bikes to explore Gustavus, and chatted with the other guests, all of whom were interesting. Our room was clean and comfortable. Ella's breakfasts were excellent and one evening we were able to enjoy a dinner that Ella cooked for all the guests present.

We spent a few days kayaking Glacier Bay this summer and flew in from Europe. Needless to say, we were a bit ill-equipped. We had been in touch with Ella, who had told us that airport pickup, transportation to the NP orientation, kayak rental, even organizing boots in our sizes wouldn't be a problem. It all sounded a bit too good to be true. Fast forward to our trip: All our expectations were surpassed. The people at Wild Alaska MADE our trip (possible)! We were given rides and advice, all the necessary equipment and more, and a chance to relax at their beautiful home before and after our adventure. This place - both Glacier Bay NP and the Wild Alaska Inn - makes it impossible NOT to come back!!! What an amazing family, too, with generous hearts and some great stories

There are few places you can stay that when you leave you have a real feel of what it is like to actually live there.Thousands visit Glacier Bay every year and very few ever touch the ground. Jan and Ela shared the best hikes, the best stories, and made this stop the most memorable of our entire adventure. Don't' miss our on this wonderful experience! P.S. if Jan offers a whale watch on his boat....say yes! It will be amazing.

Jonash and Ella are terrific hosts, very accomodating of travelers' needs. They went out of their way to help us with getting around Gustavus -- not an easy feat! Jonash is a master chef -- our breakfasts and dinners were excellent. The inn is comfortable, and Alaska-style, built by hand by Jonash. Their daughters are special people and we felt like part of the family for the two days of our stay.

The previous reviews are all spot on, Ela and Jan and their family make the stay at their B&B a wonderful experience. From the time they meet you at the airport until you leave you are made to feel very welcome. Dinner at night can be freshly caught crab, literally fresh out of the water 15 minutes before or amazing Alaskan salmon. The accommodations are comfortable and the house is always very warm. Take one of the many bikes and explore the area or go whale watching on Jan's boat. You won't be disappointed when you spend a few days at Wild Alaska.

A party of three, we stayed at the Inn in early June. The best part of the stay was the genuine hospitality from our hosts .. getting a flavor from them about living in a small Alaskan outpost, suggesting what sights to see, booking our Glacier Bay tour and transporting us there, taking us on a whale watching trip(extra ) and bringing a sea kayak along for one of us. Rooms, washroom facilities, breakfasts were all great and our hosts cooked us a great dinner to boot (extra). One of our most personal stays in Alaska. Definitely would stay again at another Alaska outing.
