“What a great surprise! Yummy, fun, & a great deal!”
Reviewed 22 August 2012

We took a ride down the main drag to fins a place to feed our family of five and came across this former gas station turned restaurant. What a great place. It's basic, delicious, and a great deal. We were there on a tuesday nite, and they had great live music that set the mood brilliantly. Picnic tables are under the original canopy. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches with cole slaw & the best pork n beans we've ever had, the kids had $5 kid meals which were smaller versions of the regular menu, not the usual garbage found on a kid menu. To feed a family of five well for $35 is a rare thing indeed.

“nothing special”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

I have eaten at this place twice. It was ok. The beef brisket is a little tough. I thought the side dishes were better than the brisket. Price was not bad for a in season tourist town $9 for a sandwitch and two sides.

“OK”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

Nothing special about the barbecue. The sauce is a little warm, which is OK, the beans were very good, service is slow.

“I was wrong”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

Clarified with Big John's that they don't use MSG and have eaten there many times since with no similar feelings. Chow remains great. This Trip Advisor system wouldn't let me enter an update until 30 days had passed. No clue why?

What I like about Big John's over the other BBQ place in town is that Big John's DOES NOT preseason the BBQ. I get to choose how I wanna season it and for me that's leave it plain. The BBQ itself is succulent without seasoning.

Not sure why folks say there are small portions. My pork BBQ sandwiches always have an extra handful or two of pork falling out of them.

“Try Somewhere Else for BBQ Food”
Reviewed 28 July 2012

Very disappointed by the BBQ food here, & find it difficult to understand the previous high ratings this place has received (which was why we came here to eat).
It was pricey for what we ate, the portions we were served were small, & they didn't get our order right either.
Suggest you find somewhere else to have your BBQ meal.
