Owner description: Horseshoe Bend is the intimate Grand Canyon experience (although technically located in Glen Canyon.) The trailhead to this 3/4 mile hike is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River, 4 miles south of the Glen Canyon Dam, and 7 miles north of mile zero of the Grand Canyon.

A superb photo opportunity just a few miles out side of Page.....and its FREE.

Crossing over the bridge (from the resort), simply follow the road for approx 15 min til you spot mile marker 13. Chances are you'll see all the cars parked up on the left.
There is no shade and a roughish 3/4 of a mile walk.
Go at sunset (it'll be busy but worth it).

Short hike to the bend then you get spectacular views potentially. We went though at around 6pm which was perhaps not the best time to catch it as it was quite hard to see but beautiful all the same. Also a lot of loud tourists at the time we went so perhaps choose a different time but well worth a visit.

“Spectacular, could be a tough hike if you're not prepared”
Reviewed 18 August 2014 via mobile

Spectacular vista, not to be missed. We went early evening, a little before sunset and the lighting was nice. It was 98 degrees, but we were so preoccupied with the view that we didn't notice we were getting dehydrated. The walk back to the car is mostly uphill and we almost had to carry our 12 year old out.
So my tip is, don't wait until you're thirsty to drink water. The walk seems short and easy and the incredible view can make you forget what the desert climate is doing to your body. Take it slow, wear a hat, take regular sips and you'll be fine.

“Nice view.”

The horseshoe bend near Page is beautiful and worth visiting. The hike from the parking lot can be strenous in the heat. There is no fee.

“Where serenity and society converge”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

There is nothing I can say about the view that isn't short of an adjective like "EPIC". It's incredible. Just like every review I read prior to my travels. It's a popular place. Which is my "negative". I'm also not found of crowds, so that's a preference I reckon. There is a weeeee bit of a hike. Down hill after the first stretch the whole way there-but after you've been basking in the Arizona sun, walking it back uphill is a wee bit daunting for a few minutes. If you get hot or tired easily, you might want to consider bringing a bottle of water and going off the "sand path" (which is what we chose to do)...but I would assume you would need to watch out for crawling critters. Like everyone else says-there are NO rails to the look out. however, you can admire the beauty without having to creep close to the edge. I am comfortable on cliffs, so it wasn't a problem for me personally. However, with the crowds of people in close proximity- I was nervous about the common sense of the people around. As we were walking back to our car, we managed to avoid the "tour bus" crowd. So that was helpful. There is a parking lot. No bathrooms however. If you are in there area, there is absolutely no reason to not take in this view.
