“Scandinavian Crafts, Sustainability, Sailing, Community, this school has it all!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

I went up in May to take a timber framing class and attend the sustainability symposium at North House and it was an amazing experience that I will never forget! Not only did I learn a TON but I found the instructors and the community to be warm, friendly and informative. I even managed to get up to Grand Marais without a car by catching a ride with the Superior Hiking Shuttle from Duluth.

If you're like me and you like to take learning / educational vacations than going up to Grand Marais to take a class at the school is something I would definitely consider. They have countless courses on all manner of subjects and hands on crafts all year long so there is a little of something for everyone, and the pizza bake is just plain awesome!

Even if you're just in Grand Marais to visit, then stop by the school for one of their tours and check out their awesome bookstore!

“Nothing like it on the north shore or anywhere else”

Too wonderful to describe. I can think of no other community that could create and support a wonderful learning community described by the NORTH HOUSE FOLK SCHOOL. Go on-line to their website and look at the amazing list of learning opportunities..... it's staggering. The best part of taking a North House course is the people you'll meet and the wonderful inclusive community you'll encounter. Located right in the harbor of Grand Marais, the campus is exquisite and you will want to return time after time. Don't forget.... go on-line and check out that course guide. There is something for everyone and all ages.

“Summer (or winter) camp for grown ups!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013 via mobile

We love North House Folk School. We've taken sailing courses, an herbalist course, Fjord Horse driving and visited during summer solstice. I think that spending time learning traditional skills and crafts is a great way to learn about the world, make new friends and support a cause that maintains and promotes a multitude of cultures. Besides, it's fun and you'll feel like a kid again!

“Unique asset to the Grand Marais community”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

North House is worth a few minutes for a tour of the attractive and interesting campus or for hours or days to enroll in one of their courses. A trip on the Hjordis, their boat, is a great extension of a typical trip to Grand Marais by allowing visitors to get out on the water and gain exposure to the big lake.

The workshops and events at the North House Folk school make us all proud to have it a part of our community. Contact them online for their schedule and a list of their courses and events. You won't regret it.
