They are in the process of becoming a brew pub, good food but slightly expensive. Good local beer selection. They had live music they night we were there.

“Never dissapointed with the sangria”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

We try to visit GM 1-2x per year. The Gunflint Tavern is a regular stop for us. We love the small bar and the upstairs portion looking over the lake. I am in LOVE with their sangria... it is more of a mulled sangria and very good. Their menu is diverse and I think anyone can find something to eat off of it. We have never been dissapointed. I have had two of my favorite GM memories in this restaurant. One was a rainy day that we spent on the bar side playing cribbage, watching baseball and enjoying some beverages. Another was spent on the roof on a beautifully calm and warm day watching the sun reflect off the lake. They had a band come on after the sunset and it was so much fun to just listen to them and watch the moon on the lake.

“Awesome surprise!”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We had an amazing lunch at the Tavern! The menu choices were unique and we tried a variety of items. Everything was delicious and hot. Even though they were very busy the service was great!

“Roof Top Deck, Upscale atmosphere”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

I found the Gunflint Tavern to be a bit of a let down. First we were greeted by a hostess who seemed completely overwhelmed, so we opted to sit at the bar. It took awhile to get service, despite being acknowledged by the bartender several times. After looking over the menu, and being underwhelmed, we decided to enjoy our beers, grab an order of cheese curds at the DQ to hold us over for a bit and eat dinner at My Sisters Place. The Gunflint Tavern has a roof top deck and is right on the water, the weather wasn't cooperating for us at the time, but this seems like a great place to be in Grand Marais. Prices seemed kind of high for this bar room atmosphere, but I don't know of anywhere else in town that is catering to those who are either Glamping, have found a hotel or looking for something classier after spending 6 days in the BWCA. Truth be told, if you just walked out of the back country, you would be a bit out of place here... it caters more to those who are spending time at Lutsen and looking for something to do besides ski.
